Nothing wrong with a Ridgid if it works for you. The Stihl is a much better vacuum though. Really no comparison.

Wife got me a stihl se122 (I think that's the number on it) vac last year after my "dirt Hawg" died. It's a damn fine vacuum. The ridgids aren't anything to sneeze at either. The maintenance guys at my work have them and they like em a lot.

I would not hesistate to buy the Stihl, the OEM also supplies vacs to Milwaukee, AEG, Makita and a while ago to Festool too.

I think all Rigid are China? My Dad has a 16gal. and has already replaced the hose and has to only buy Rigid so that it fits sence it's non-standard.

Unless he has some really weird one, that isn't true. Current Rigid vacs are made by Emerson electric, the same OEM as Craftsman vacs. The hoses and attachments are all absolutely identical.

To the the people pushing Rigid--

Where are Rigid shop vacs made?

Not sure, but i do know that a few of their higher end models are still lifetime warranty. I bought the "scroll noise reduction" model and it is the only vacuum ive used that compares to the nilfisk we have at work. It is so quiet that can use it in my office while my fiance is sleeping in the next room, and this house has thin walls.

To be honest, its the only "consumer" vac ive found that is even close to being in the same league as the euro-vacs, and for $99 plus a lifetime warranty, i just dont see how it can be beat. It was really surprising to take it out of the box and be greeted with something solid that runs smoothly.

edit: Here's the vac I have... the WD1450. I can say without a doubt, that anyone who buys this vac will be satisfied. It's a true winner. The 4.6 out of 5 rating with 126 reviews speaks pretty loudly too. I'm not the only one that absolutely loves this vacuum.

I had to buy the exhaust diffuser, because this thing moves so much air, the exhaust was blowing items off the shelves under my workbench while I was cleaning my shop. :lol_hitti

edit2: The other thing I really love about it, is that it has a really nice nylon bag that hangs off the back, for all of the attachments to go in. It's far superior to the solution on most vacs I've seen.

The price you see on the website is not the price I paying. I work for a dealer that sells Stihl so I get a little discount. The shop vacs they sell in the stores are junk wheels never stay on suction hoses break or end up with little holes in them. Want to have one that has good suction power. Also want to be able to get parts if I need too, ordered one today so I should see it Tuesday.

Thanks for the rec on the WD1450. Been wanting something better and quiet but not wanting to spend $$$ on the euro models. This goes on the list when I finally have had enough with my existing noisy rigid (which cost almost as much!!).

I use this one daily. The accesories (ALL of them) fit into or onto the unit. No more where is that thingy?

At the HW store that I work at part-time we have the Nilfisk-Alto Attix, good vacuum, NOT portable, hatefully small wheels, aggressively top heavy, hoses flatten EASILY, cord has memory, not something I would spend the extra money on.
