Stolen Jack Handle, What to do?

Hi guys,

I was working on my car over the last week and accidentally left the handle to my jack outside and it was stolen. It's a Craftsman 50240, decent jack and I see no reason to buy a brand new one when this one works fine.

I believe this is the correct parts list but it shows that part of the handle is NLA:

Do any of you know if sears uses a standard size for their handles? Or maybe have any other ideas?

That would be great but it has a square end on the bottom and a collar that locks it into place. I don't have a way to machine anything and am looking for a simple solution, maybe another handle that would fit?

If it were me, I'd try to get a replacement from Sears. Oh yeah, make sure you still have the little screw thingy that holds it in place as well...

If Sears no longer can get them, they sourced them from a company called "Lincoln" (I have one of those, they're identical to what you pictured), and they were still in business when I had to replace the ram seals on mine 10 years ago... mine has the double casters, not the low profile roller, but IIRC the handle fits either.

Darned good small jacks, tho... won't part with mine!

That *****. Scrappers? What is the square size for the release gear? You could purchase one as a replacement part from many different makers. But I have a feeling shipping would be a killer on a one piece. Even a piece of thick wall tubing that size isn't going to be cheap, unless you have a special source.

Another member here had a similar problem with a missing jack handle. This is what it could look like (the one on the LHS) with some dimensions that may be appropriate.

Couple of suggestions.....look for local outfits that repair jacks and see if they have a handle in their "junkyard" or, if you can weld, you could make one. That end piece is just a washer with a square hole on some pipes.......

Always helps to show a location....might be someone close by that has an extra one.

You can buy bushings with square holes in them, so fabbing one up if you can find a piece of suitable pipe and can weld, or know someone who can, shouldn't be difficult.
+1 on adding your location, you never know.
Good luck, Jim

Hey guys, believe it or not you have been an enormous help. After doing a ton of research and following up on a few of your leads it looks like a lot of the aluminum jacks are made by the same manufacturer (not surprising). I pulled the trigger on this handle:

If it doesn't fit I will let everyone know.

Yep, I live in southern California and they are ruthless here.

I have two of those jacks. I like them very much. Great in the garage and at the race track.

They are made by this company:

When I needed some parts, they were very helpful in the past.

Hi ****, small world. I grew up in Cedarburg.

the Omega 26022 looks almost exactly like the jack I have. Couldn't find the replacement handle though. We will see if my purchase works out.
