So my wife forced me to go look at garage sales with her, I didn't want to go but it payed off! At the third sale we went to, a older widow was selling off a bunch of things, including a KRL1001 with a KR1011 top box,
for....... $150!!! :FIREdevil She just didn't have room for it in her garage, so I alleviated her pain.

Now it isn't in perfect shape. It has some holes on the side where it looks like something was screwed to it at one time. Anyone have any ideas on the best way to fix these? Anyone ever used any type of body filler on a toolbox?

man..........you **** doesn't say enough. it's hard to say what the best way to fix the holes is without pics. you may want to leave well enough alone if your not planning a complete repaint.

Man for what you saved on the top & bottom, buy a side box and you will never see the holes.:)

I did have a box where someone drilled holes in the side to mount something. I have a nut setter for sheet metal so I crimped some nuts in the holes that I painted the same color of the box, it made it look like it came that way from the factory.

Unless you plan on repainting the entire side of the box, dont try and fill the holes. Bondo in a hole is going to fail quickly. They need to be carefully welded shut, sanded flush, primed, and then painted.

I would just go with grommets, like suggested for above. Or since you got it so cheaply, lookout for a used side cabinet. They can be found very reasonably sometimes.

I'd just live with it. It's a used box. Mine's covered in dents and scratches, a big patch with the paint scratch off from shoving it in the back of a van full of junk. Still works perfectly. It only hurts when it's a brand new box, if it's older or used i wouldn't worry about it.

How big are the holes? If they're not too big, you can put a steel rod in them and weld the rod in place; then grind the rod and the weld flush.
