Me too!

Lots of good ideas here. The members never stop coming up with them.

I hope the OP walked a way with one or more suitable ideas.

OK then, switched from boxes to jars.

Here's about a 1000 plastic/screw top jars to wade thru:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_...c+containers+screw+top&ie=UTF8&qid=1520440178
:D

Ya know the other day when I first started searching, my my kept thinking "storage container", and all I could come up with was primarily large tote style containers. It never dawned on my dumb *** to type in "JAR" duh. I have a bad habit of using Amazon and eBay as my go to searches for these types of things. Mainly for variety and reviews. I've got to break my self of that habit though.

Might find an appropriately sized jar at the Dollar Store... Nothing says you have to eat your weight in mayonnaise or pickles. Buy them strictly for the container (at a ~buck each...) and dump the food. No shipping costs...

True. It just seems wasteful though

Yes, tons of good ideas. I'll just have to find the time again to wade through some more of them. I thought I was in the money with the Uline, until I saw the shipping.

No personal experience with these yet, but I think I'll pick up a few the next time they go on sale at Menards.

I have had some of those. I didn't like them. Flimsy and not stackable.

The first bench is for sheet metal, the bins for hose clamps, clips and deck screws.

I'm heavily leaning towards the ULine style screw top jars. Now I just need to find where I can buy small quantities (less than 50), and not get gouged on shipping. I was getting ready to order ULine's minimum of 24 16oz, and 12 32oz containers, until they hit me with $20 shipping. 36 containers for $71 makes them less desirable. I get their motive to sell hundreds at a time, but not to me. Back to searching..... I'll find something, eventually.

Maybe try Fastenal if you have one local.

I use the blue electrical gang boxes. They come in a variety of sizes to suit my needs. If I need a lid on it I grab some blank faceplates and use 1 screw so the faceplate swivels

Just throwing this out, but if enough of us wanted the same thing, maybe we could organize some sort of group buy direct from a manufacturer where we could buy in large quantities.

But it would still be a logistical challenge and shipping charges might be a killer.

That said, there are a lot of us here. If we could find a member or vendor or two in every state willing to donate some temporary warehouse space, we could set up annual or semi annual sale where we collected orders from members into large quantities for a few key items, then distributed them out. Could be a fun event with some camaraderie too.

I have looked all over ebay and Amazon, and here. I've had little luck finding a storage box that meets all of my needs. So I'm hoping to get some ideas that I've missed.

These are about the closest I have gotten, though, I'm not crazy about the colors, and the wastefulness of the freezer packs.
Kid's Lunch Cups
My wife bought some of these a while back and retired them to my shop, and they are great quality and very heavy duty. One of these 2 cup containers will hold 3lbs of screws.

My criteria:
Individual containers
Heavy duty
Lid
Transparent/semi transparent
Stackable
Large enough to hold 2-5lbs of screws
Affordable
Something that I don't have to eat or drink 30 of (insert food here)
NO GLASS!

Why? I get the other criteria but why individual?

I knew a guy who kept the original boxes (and dug more out of the trash) to store in a purpose built shelf. The containers in this thread don't have a good shape to slide in and out without a bunch of actual shelves.

This photo is **** to me:

Exactly, a purpose built cabinet

And, like I said in my example earlier. If I am working on a project where I need 1 5/8" trim screws, I want to grab a clearly marked container with 1 5/8" trim screws, not 1 5/8" trim screws, 2" trim screws, 1 1/4" drywall, 1 5/8" drywall, 2" drywall, etc, etc, etc.

What I see in the pic you posted is me pulling one out, nope, that's not it. Then another, nope, then another..... until I find the 1 5/8" trim screws. :eyecrazy:

These would store nicer:
https://www.uline.com/BL_8179/Plastic-Grip-Jars

Other people have posted about similar things but food containers. This way you don't need to eat all the food! I save similar things when my fiancée finishes off peanut butter filled pretzels.

Uline wants to **** me on shipping making the jars very expensive in small quantities. But the round screw lid jars is my goal. I just trying to find them under $3 a piece.

I tried every variation of search words on Amazon, and I never once saw those. Thanks for the link.

late to the party & admit I didn't read the whole thread, but those containers look exactly like the 2lb peanut containers from Planters. I've got a couple in the garage with random hardware

edit: last post links Uline, which again look JUST like the bigger peanut jars. Pay $5.50 for a jar of peanuts, consume, shake out, and now you've got a nice storage container

I recently picked up the Milwaukee storage container. Plastic and good handle & quality fasteners with an assortment of large and small containers. I have 3 1/2" screws in some. The individual containers lift out t take to the work area and at last I have all of that type screw in the same place. I'm gong to get a couple more.

This is what you want, but not sure how affordable. I use the similar version without the clear lid.

Not sure its going to meet your affordable, but by god they meet everything else.

I'll do the OP a favor and let you know that's not what he's looking for.

He's wanting "individual containers" with lids. Not the multi-use cases.

I agree with you though, that the storage cases with the pull out boxes are nice. I can also agree with the OP that I've pulled out one of the small boxes to take to where I was working and dropped the little box spilling the screws all over the place. Having a lid that I took off when I got to where I was going would have been nice. I also had an incident where I had two of the little boxes in a 5 gallon bucket with all the tools. For whatever reason they both fell over and mixed in the bottom of the bucket. Spent the next 10 minutes sorting the two different sized screws back apart.

Costco has a box of these Buddeez that comes out around $1.50 per box. Don't remember how many containers are in the box I want to say 8.

I do like them and the price, and I friend of mine has a memebrship there. The size looks a bit large to me.
Anyone been able to put there hands on them to give me an idea of physical size? Lowes is online only for me.

By any chance can you find them on their website? I've tried about 12 different search words on their site and can't find anything even close.

With all due respect, and I truly mean that, and appreciate everyone's input on this subject.
But I've got to say, sometimes I feel like people don't read an entire post, much less all the post in a a thread, before posting a reply.
It makes me feel like a total ******* saying that on my own thread, where I came here and asked for you guys help, but I struggle with this every time I've had to quote and reply back, and give a reason why not.

I usually don't apologize for offending someone with my opinion, but in this case, I am sorry If I have offended anyone.

Would 16oz do?

I ask, as there's listings on eBay for what you're looking for (like the uline jars) that come in under $3 per shipped.

16oz Clear Plastic Jars with Black Plastic Lids (6 pack)

Larger are available, but will exceed your $3 per target (gets kinda ugly actually :().

I use the open red storage containers from Menards. Cheap. Plenty big for nuts, washers and small quantities of bolts <3". For really small fasteners (1/4", #12, #10, #8) I put them in small zip lock bags and then group the bags into one bin. It is really nice to grab the #10 bin and quickly find machine screws and nuts or sheet metal screws in various lengths.

Reminds me. I should make a shopping list and go to my favorite fastener store !

Update on the Buddeez bins.
First let me say, Costcos website *****, and their local store call tree ***** even more. There is no "general department" I had to get ahold of the tire department to talk to a person. He confirmed they do sell them, and my local/only store has 29 more cases in stock at $19.99, and once sold out, will NOT be restocking them. I dropped $86 4 packs of these. So now I've got 48 heavy duty containers at $1.82 each after tax.

I don't have exact dimensions, but I tried one out when they were first put in the stores. It fit both 3-1/2" and 4" screws. 5" lag was a tight fit. volume wise its about the same as the plastic 5# box of screws.

And no I don't think it's on the costco website.
