I have 40-60 of open was space that is dying for some cabinets for storage. I don't want shelves as this area will see dust and dirt so a closing cabinet is a better option. I LOVE the Strongholds here at work but cant swing the $2K each for them, what the next best deal going? Not looking for $100 HF throw aways, something in the $3-400 range of a standard item I can buy 2-3 at a crack for the next few years and have them still be around.

I would suggest looking on CL for used Lyons cabinets. I see the 6 foot tall double door cabinets go for the $100 range around here. I have two and they work pretty well. Check with a used office supply. The guy here has literally a warehouse full of commercial grade cabinets for reasonable prices.

I really like the Seville Classics UltraHD cabinet. I have 1 and I'll be buying at least 2 more soon. I had them in the machine shop I set up at my old job. Great for the money. Used to be able to score them for around $199 at Sams if you're a member.

Are you looking for tall upright cabinets? Lower cabinets? Upper cabinets?

What about shelving and making your own doors and sides? 40ft of cabinets is going to cost a whole lot if your not willing to go the HF route.

Other than used cabinets, I have bought Whirlpool Corporation-"Gladiator" cabinets in the Premier line, welded, powder-coated, sturdy, easy to hang, and reasonably-priced if you can catch them on-sale. I got mine at Sears on a close-out, < $90 apiece for the 30" x 30" x 12" wall-mounts. They also have roll-about floor models, those are pretty-expensive unless you find them on-sale. The Big Box stores carry them too.

I was at HFT yesterday to make-use of my Labor Day 25% coupon, and saw a US General 26" wide top box which looked to be extra-deep, I didn't measure it, but it looked like it would fit near-to full-depth onto a 24" deep cabinet. I think only the lowest drawer was deep, the others were shallow. Instead of those leviathan l-o-n-g boxes, if you have the standard 26" wide boxes that a lot of hobbyists have, this looks like it would be a good item. I checked for a description & think it's a 21-1/2" deep cabinet, which I would say is pretty-good. This I believe is what I saw:
https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-...ts/26-in-single-bank-red-top-chest-64160.html

Not wall cabinets, but if you have the 26" wide bottom cabinets, this would make a good top cabinet, w/> usual depth.

Another Gladiator product I have several of is their line of steel shelving, you could make a back, sides and doors if you wanted to, they are very sturdy, and come in different lengths. I like the 77" long ones, for max space, but I've also bought the 60" ones. They are available in different depths, as-in 18" or 24" and I have narrowed the depth of the 24" ones to fit my returns space in my 2 car garage, which worked-out to being a ~14" depth. I use a piece of masonite on-top of the wire shelf to make it easier to load & unload items from the shelf.

Cheapest current price I've found, for the 77" W x 24" deep x 72" H & 2000 lbs per shelf unit:

Thank you guys for the input. This is an interior wall, the main garage door opening into building 30"away from the is wall, you drive next to it as you drive into the shop. I cant really do much in that space so I figured some cabinets would be nice. The door is open allot so dust, dirt and other items are in the air along with sawdust and metal dust from general shop use.

Could frame in some closets and mount sliding bypass doors. A couple of 36" door slabs and the hardware is in the $100 price range plus the framing/sheet rock. Design the interior shelling to fit your storage needs.

Had 2 6ft closets side by side in a rental I was years back and plan on doing it in our new house. Made great storage and kept the other half happy.

I second this. I got mine in red and they are holding up well.

EDIT: I was trying to quote the tec508’s post about Seville cabinets. Not sure what went wrong.

Note that he's asking about cabinets, not shelves or drawers.

Yes, I saw his focus was on cabinets, which is why my first paragraph was about them. In a shop, you frequently have need for storage of bulky, heavy items. Enclosing a set of easily-adjustable shelves gives you the flexibility to change their layout if needed, the ability to place heavyweight items onto them, and the flexibility to choose the enclosure material. Steel for sturdy, wood for ease of fabrication, or just a tarp to help prevent accumulation of dust & etc. while allowing full accessibility.

I've used ideas looking at others' projects here in GJ that showed me 'there's more-than one-way to accomplish something.'

I'm looking for some storage solutions too. The Seville rolling cabinets look like what I will probably get, but I'd really like something just a bit taller, like 8' but everything seems to be set at 6' tall. Has anyone found any good shelving or cabinets that are taller than six feet?

I've had the same issue. My shop has 11' ceilings so I wanted to maximize height. I also want 8' tall steel racks, wasn't able to find anything affordable so I'll make wall shelves starting just above my 6' cabinets.

They go through standard doorways at 6 foot, which is a consideration in most situations.

The Seville's aren't terrible quality for the $$.

Their "Big" storage cabinet has an add-on stacker available, which brings it up just shy of 8'.

The smaller, wheeled unit also has an add-on available.

Thanks! I didn't even see the stackers, that will be perfect for what I'm after.

I bought the gladiator RTA (ready to assemble) cabinets last year from Lowe’s after the Black Friday sale. I think I paid about half of their usual price. I don’t know if they mark those down significantly every year, but if you like them and can wait 2 months, it might be a good deal for you.

I will take this in a different direction. If I was looking for a 40-60 ft row of cabinets and was not worried about being fancy I would just build them out of wood. If unable to build than hire out the project because it will be much cheaper than quality retail cabinets and just as strong.

I built cabinets and bench top along one wall and bought some inexpensive upper cabinets. I just ordered the Seville large cabinet for the opposite wall (48x24x72). Like you I want all my stuff enclosed for dust reasons. I built a corner closet for my compressor. Middle of my lower cabinet is going to hold my miter saw. Will post more when I get the other cabinet.

If it is in a garage, stay away from anything made with wood, especially particle boar or OSB. They will warp and fall apart unless you live in the desert !

With paper files being replaced with computer files and the closing of big box stores the used office furniture and store fixture guys are over supplied.
It is surprisingly strong and cheap stuff.
