Ok guys I'm in the middle of "re-modeling" my 20' x 30' shop. It is filling up EXTREMELY quick! I have ready through all of the great "storage"threads and got lots of GREAT ideas.

For Reference:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79547

However I have not seen anything on storing "large" oddly shaped items. Below is the list of stuff that I came across this weekend and don't have a clever way to store.....YET:lol_hitti

1)Gas Weed eater
2) Gas Blower
3) Jack Stands
4) Saw Horse's

What idea's do you have GJ?
Also feel free to add other items that you have come up with clever ways to store!!

For my gas weedeater (and fertilizer spreader), I placed them on hooks in the dead space alongside my garage door -

In the winter, I put my snowblower where the mower is parked in that picture. That way it's accessible for those times when I need it (which has been a lot these past couple of winters!).

i fell for the convenience and price of a metal shed, so i built this wall/bracket/thing along the back wall to store the blower, string trimmer, and edger attachment. a couple 2x4s ran from floor to ceiling with a scrap piece of plywood screwed to that. two of those big red hooks for bicycles, etc. to hold the blower (there were a bunch of them hanging from the garage ceiling when i bought the house). a wood bracket made of a hunk of 2x6 with a 2x4 gusset to support it for the string trimmer. and finally a hole in the plywood to hang the edger attachment from (in this pic i have the edger attachment on the power head, but you get the idea).

and finally jack stand storage. i do not use jack stands often enough to justify taking up space in my cramped 14x20 garage. when i need them i carry them around the house to the garage. which brings me to another point - build a shed for all the yard **** and seldom used items.

28: that is a great idea for storing your fertilizer spreader! I am going to borrow that idea for sure!

Bad Idea: I have been looking at small storage sheds. Even if I do go that route I will still I need to store things neatly. I have a bunch of stuff since I hate to borrow tools.

He who dies with the most tools wins right?

Have you had any problems storing your Trimmer/edger in the vertical position like that?

1)Gas Weed eater
- Out in my shed, but hanging horizontally on hooks. I actually have 2, and they hang one above the other, high enough I can still put some things against that wall.
2) Gas Blower
- Also in the shed. Mine has a lip below the discharge that lets it hang on 1x2 nailed between studs..
3) Jack Stands
- I pull the uprights out of them, and stack the bases under my bench.
4) Saw Horse's
- I sprung for a set of folding saw horses that fold flat and store on a shelf under my bench.

i have had no issues with the string trimmer stored in the vertical position, been that way for a year now. didn't know it could be an issue. would it be the fuel leaking out? i drain the fuel out of the tank back into the gas can after each use, i read you are suppose to do that somewhere. now you have got me concerned....

I was only asking. I don't know of anything saying that is bad for it. I was thinking that the fuel might flood the motor since the tank is the highest part mounted like that. If you drain it that is not a concern.

I would not worry if you drain the fuel and have had no issues thus far.:thumbup:

That said I will make my mount horizontal just to keep it up out of the way more than anything.

Propane tank on it's side in the one pic - bad idea - keep it vertical!

it is empty. i don't own anything to hook it to. i am not really sure why i still own it. one of these days i will need the shelf space and get rid of that tank. i was waiting for someone to comment on that. still waiting for someone to notice the oxy/act hose and carry case on it's side. (the act bottle is standing up not shown in the pic)

I went with folding sawhorses as well. Take up almost no space that way. My jack stands are stacked vertically in the corner next to my tool box uner the shelf.
Blower and weed eater are both hung vertically out in the shop and have never had issue with the fuel.

I saw this in another thread this morning and had to post it here.

Not my idea! Thank Cars&Classic for this one.

"Made a top for the base of the trany jack to hold jackstands. hate moving them all the time. seams like it will save space."

I am planning on doing this under my press since I don't have a rolling trans jack like this.

Thanks here is a better photo for you

I have a dedicated shelf for all my jack stands. That's a new addition to my shop, and organizing them has been a HUGE problem for me. Solved it neatly. The shelf is along the side wall, next to where we park the car.

For the saw horses, I have wooden ones, and I just stack them up and leave them outside the shop... that's where I use them anyway. I'd agree that the weather is hard on the wood, but they're really sacrificial anyway (at least the top cross-piece) and the legs can be replaced easily enough if I ever get around to it.
I've had them stored outside here in Georgia for about 8 years. They're about to the point of needing to be rebuilt... maybe this winter if I think about it.

My only suggestion would be use space above your head as much as possible, they make some nice products for doing just that.

Also the back of any man doors, depending on the type of doot.
