So does anyone have some cool innovative storage solutions for lets say power tools, extension cords, misc parts, fasteners etc.

I have my garage torn apart trying to reorganize some things and thought before I did the same old stuff that I would search outside my brain for some ideas.

I have a big bolt bin I got at an auction, a couple cabinets with slide out divided drawers that I got on eBay, some smaller card file type metal cabinets with drawers I got at garage sales, and some other misc stuff. I also have a book shelf I built to hold manuals, a Delco cabinet and a Lance snack cabinet that I got from a old shop that was going out of business, a ********* metal storage cabinet like the kind for office supplies that I keep paint and body stuff in, and a couple file cabinets for magazines and catalogs. The office supply cabinet is kind of hard to see but it's the one covered with stickers. I actually have 4 of those cabinets. They are great to store stuff in to keep it from getting covered with dust from sanding and such.

I don't have anything innovative, but it's effective for my small space.

Labeled nut/bolt/screw storage (before I finished) - click for bigger version:

Totes for odd-ball stuff (paint cans, chemicals, etc.) and office file drawers for small parts (called "check files" for when paper checks used to be stored):

Power Tool loft above my workbench with lighting underneath to light my workbench - click for bigger version.

All of my bigger tools are on wheels so I can move stuff around to work too.

I'm confined to a 20 x 20 garage with way too much stuff in it at the moment...

Wally world has nice little Velcro straps for things like extension cords and loose air lines. I have the side of one shelving unit (wood) covered in long nails that various wrapped items hang on (cords, hoses, tie downs). If they still have them, it was $1.50 for 8 12" straps in the automotive section.

I also snagged a vidmar unit from the salvage yard, but that's something all by itself. It is very handy for storing...just about anything (spare nuts and bolts, spools of wire, small electronics)

Expanding the storage bin thing, I did this;

You can find the chrome wire shelving on sale any given week somewhere. Its important to not stack them so you can access any single bin when needed.

Cool ideas. I am going to get some more plastic totes for my oddball items and store them under my workbench. I am going to hit up the flea markets/yard sales and see if I can score some old file cabinets or anything like that.

I also picked up this three shelf 6'x6'x24" steel shelf on clearance at sears to put my benchtop power tools on when not in use, I only paid $16 bucks and it was regular $230 what a find.

I too have discovered the large gray plastic containers. I am puting them in my open loft and using a marking to tell me what each contains.

I use commercial boltless shelving, the stuff with the L shaped steel posts on each corner and rivets that fit into slotted holes. Very strong, more weight on it makes it more rigid. Clear plastic flip top containers from Home Depot, fillem up, stackem up. Costco and Sams sell Seville wire shelves, chinese knock off of Metro racks with decent wheels for $70, and each shelf holds up to 800 lbs.

My garage is organized like it was a 5 year old's room and mom is on vacation.

I also use the totes, but not too much anymore.

I built a pile of these things:

Hey guys-

Tuned10 you can check out our website category "brackets" or "holders" for some heavy duty cord, hose and tool hangers. I can send anyone our free catalog as well. Our site is www.PitPal.com or call me at 888-748-7257. I'd be glad to answer any questions. Everything is made in the US and built to last a lifetime.
