Storage shelves dilemma

I have some of the gray industrial shelving that has 3ft Wide and 2ft deep
I have about 50 shelves, but none of the upright post that they bolt to.
I can buy new from Grainger, but to the tune of $70 per setup
That $560 not in the budget

Looking for ideas on alternative options

If it's common shelving, then there's a used retail or wholesale sellers of it.

plywood ripped into 2' and drill & bolt thru the shelves and pc of plywood , that closes off each shelf bay to the others , if you want them open use some 5/4 deck boards

The 2x2 size and a bucket full of nuts and bolts and you are off to the races.

Most overhead door companies have the 2x2 punched angle for commercial doors. They come in 10' length and could be cut in half. Quick and easy. Just thinking out loud.

sounds like he is talking about the edsel style shelving. 2x2 angle with 178 holes on each side..

go to the scrap yard and get some angle iron... drill holes where you want and blam-o. done

Depends on the hole spacing....try U-line. figure out which shelf it seems like then call and ask for just the upright pieces. I was able to get additional angle iron (4 pieces) amd hardware for like $25 each.

+1 Get the real stuff. The correct uprights are thicker than the punched angle iron at HD, and are MUCH cheaper, as they can be found at scrap prices all the time.

I bought the shelving in my garage from a place that specializes in used shelving. Not much money, and all in perfect condition. Well, it was dusty, there were glue marks from old stickers and some paint damage where bolts were during the last installation.

I find when I go to that type of place, the guys working there are really helpful. Just be patient, don't try to rush them. Then they happily help you go through and sort the bent stuff out so you only end up with straight pieces.
