What would you do first?

Epoxy the Floors
Buy and install Cabinets and Storage

I already own some shelving and storage made out of plywood but I’m finishing out the garage. I just insulated and drywalled/painted the interior.

Without a doubt - do the floors. You want an empty space to do it instead of going around things.

100% agree with vavet. Zero doubt. If you install cabinets first do you really want to go back and do the floor with the cabinets in the way?

Agreed on floors first. Mine were done poorly by the last owner. Didn’t realize it until I moved in and started working in the garage. Now I’m going to have to pull it all out, grind and redo the floors. Argh.

Floors, I kick myself daily for not having a professional contractor to do my floors before I moved in. To do it now would require renting a pod for a week as I could never get everything off the floor.

How's the paint? If the walls or ceiling need work I would paint before anything else. I was unable to paint my vintage garage before I moved in and now the 40 yo paint really looks ugly with nice cabinets hung on it.

Yes, I'm trying to decide between flooring at ~$1800 or cabinets at $1000

The garage is unfinished. I removed all the stuff on the walls and moved all my existing shelves to the middle of the garage. I put in insulation and drywall and will paint.

So all my stuff is currently in the middle of the 2-car garage.

I'm leaning towards cabinets. One side of the garage floor is in great shape, the other has some spalling from road salt. I'm also planning to mount the cabinets and "lockers" to the walls.

If I do the floors in the future, can I leave them up when they grind the concrete? 18in depth.

IF your cabinets are up off the floor a few feet (like wall cabinets) do them first as they'll help to keep your garage contents off the floor during coating. Otherwise, floor.

You mentioned road salt and spalling, which should be addressed straight up (before snow again) by sealing the floor, or doing the grind/epoxy thing.

More like 6in off the ground for the base cabinets and storage lockers.

I'm anticipating when I grind the concrete, those parts can be done by hand similar to the edges.
