I have looked at Lowes Gladiator large cabinet and Sam's club large cabinet for storage in my new garage. Does anyone have any comments on either of these or can you point me in the direction of a good value cabinet for about the same price? Thanks

I have both the Gladiator (large lockers and small cabinets) as well as the Seville Classics (several smaller drawer units). I have the gladiator units cause I got in on some of that killer Lowes sale a while back.

I think overall quality is about the same, unless you get to comparing the WELDED Gladiator stuff, which is markedly better than either brand's screw-together line.

Personally if I had it to do all over again, I would just go with the cheaper solution that is local/readily available. Or if you have a preference on the cosmetics. I like the stainless, but it is a little harder to keep clean.

I looked at the Sevilles and Gladiators a few months ago. I would agree with previous comments that welded units do seem much stronger than the bolted varieties. It might not matter to you if your not planning on putting a lot of weight in them- just choose which looks better to you.
But if you want something thats durable, look around for the shelf capacity of these units, its usually only 125-150lb for the cheap ones. That means you can't load them up with paint cans or cast iron exhaust manifolds, and sometimes the thin gauge metal makes the doors hard to latch and shut.

I bypassed these and got a large portable storage unit by Sandusky, which used to be sold from Sam's website (not anymore). These welded guys came with extra deep adjustable shelves that were rated up to 230lb. I think places like Staples and Office Depot. These things aren't flashy, but they were designed to store hundreds of pounds of paper and office supplies, and I think they are a better value than the Gladiator/Seville stuff.

Jeff wrote up a detailed and favorable review of sam's club seville garage wall cabinet on ToolGuyd.

I'm not a huge fan of Gladiator's bolt-together units. I have a 24" cabinet, and while I'm liking it a lot now, I encountered a few defects and snags when putting it together. I had to improvise with a makeshift shim. As far as I know, the problem I encountered is NOT widespread, just a rare/random defect.

You can hang the large Gladiator cabinets on the walls if you install the tracks. Since Seville does not have a track system I dont think the large locker length cabinets can be hung. Welded is always better quality but a few RTA pieces are real good quality.
Some people say its flimsy/not durable but I dont have any problem whatsoever.

Yes its pricey but If you hunt around enough (searsoutlet, craigslist, sears 30% off sales every few months) you can get GW cabinets/products at decent or ridiculous savings. I love it, my wife loves it and its the best looking garage in the hood.

What are 'GW' cabinets?

I bought several of the Sam's Club Sevilles. For the price, I haven't found anything to beat it. From a weight stand point, I have a shelf stacked two high with paint cans. (Half full). Doesn't seem to be a problem. Logically, place the fullest paint cans near the support. But even if I didn't I think it would be fine.

Great cabinets. I got five on rollers, and three more wall hanging cabinets.

I have two Seville tall cabinets. Even though they are not welded they are pretty sturdy once put together. Assembly isnt bad after the first one. I like everything about them but the gray finish, so i lightly sanded them and painted semigloss black. I also am not a fan of the diamond plate look.

Good point on the Sam's availability.

I bought one, then my wife and I thought, at this price might as well buy as many as we need while we can.

Sometimes I still think I could use one more.

one reason Gladiator welded cabinets cost more is because they are made in the USA - Chicago. Seville and Gladiator ready to assemble cabinets are from China. Either way its all good stuff.

I have 3 of the Seville's. I had a hard time buying them from the Great Satan but that was the only place to get them. The comment about putting the first one together was right. However, I got them together in 2 hours each. They are sturdy and well built, especially for the money. They look great in my garage.
