Hiya,
Ive got a 2 car garage, with 3m walls, reaching up to 3.8m in the peak. Ive tried EVERY arrangement of my cabinets (mix of metal shelves, cabinets and filing cabinets, all under 2.5m tall) but i simply DO NOT have enough storage!
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Its driving me mad!

Simple - You need a bigger garage!

Not kidding. If you have "tried EVERY arrangement of my cabinets" and don't have enough storage, the answer is pretty obvious. That, or you need to get rid of some of your stuff - just like me. No magic wand for this problem, sorry!

More drawers, go vertical, get rid of some stuff that you don't use. Go through everything, think have I used this recently, will I use it in the next year, does it hold any sentimental value? If no to the above get rid of it.

Basement or attic? Thats how im cleaning up my garage. All my car part storage got transferred to my garage, which i built two big racks to hold all that.

Am starting to think I'm going to have to build my own storage, instead of using 'box store' solutions!
I only built the shed 6 weeks ago, it CANT be too small already!

Sounds like you need to build a storage "loft". It was the first project for my single. Mine is 12'x4' and 18" from the ceiling. Plenty of room to work underneath and it's amazing how much stuff you can put up there.

Build up. In my old 2 car I made an entire wall unit with shelves going all the way up to the ceiling, I also incorporated a workbench and space for my tool chest and air compressor. I also got rid of some stuff and had to organize a little better.

I have real pallet racking from an old job working in a warehouse. I set them up at the front of my garage, and only have the shelves set up high. And have my work bench and work area set up underneath it. That way i didnt lose any flow space, but still have a ton of square footage available.

What kind of stuff are you storing? I hate to get rid of stuff even if it is a 5 year use item.
lawn items and such fit great in a shed for those who do not have room for a separate shop
For smaller items front and overhead storage seems to be the best option, leaving the sides open for access to vehicles. I hate having to fight space to get in and out of my vehicles.

Have you ever seen the type of stairways that go up into the attic? They do make (or you can easily make) shelves that hang on the ceiling and drop down to gain access to them. Just mount the shelves on hinges and make some type of locking system to hold them up against the ceiling. I see them on the home improvement TV shows all the time.

Option 1 - You only need about 2 meters clear space. Build a loft area like bshusted's picture above. Add doors if you want it to disappear.

Option 2 - Get rid of some stuff

Option 3 - Move

Option 4 - ???
