I like them out in the open where I can see them and easily grab the one I need. So for my tools that I don't store a case, I have them on shelves. For tools in the case they are also on a shelf but more out of the way...

Drills and grinders in the bottom drawer (deep) of my tool box, saws in a cabinet, sanders in my grinder cabinet (which happens to be an old microwave stand).

Hi all,

angle grinders, heat gun, dremel and endoscope in a tool cabinet right next to the workbench, the rest of my not so frequently used power tools is stored in a big tool cabinet in the basement.

A couple years ago I bought a couple 5 drawer Craftsman boxes. The ones with the deep drawers. Every power tool gets it's own drawer. Every bit/blade/access for ea tool goes in that drawer.
It works well. Need a circ saw, open drawer and all the blades are there.
Drill bits and drivers right next to the drill, etc.

I think on sale they were $150 ea.

woodworking type powertools, sanders, biscuit cutter, saws, ect are on an open shelf in the basement reloading/hobby room

out in the garage, smaller air tools are in a toolbox drawer, larger (seldom used) air tools are in a wall mounted steel cabinet, corded drills in blow molded boxes are in an open compartment in the bottom of another box, corded grinders in a wall mounted side box.

I've got hand held powertools everywhere, but I'm getting ready for a BIG reorg, and part of that will be getting an big lateral file for the bulk of them. Out of the dust and flying debris, and easy to get to. Done. Some will be in where they are typically used (like my 4-1/2" grinders in my welding bench drawers) but others don't have that dedicated of a home...

Thanks; i like this and plan to use it when i move. I'll be getting new cabinets then. Don't know why i never thought of doing that myself. I think sometimes we get stuck in a rut; for me its been about 50 years of shop work

Smaller angle grinders are hung on the wall. Most other power tools are on an open shelf or on a shelf in a cabinet. I made my work bench tall enough that my benchtop table saw/stand slide under a section of it.

If they have cases, in their respective case. The cases are stored under the workbench behind a closed door. The stuff without a case goes right next to them.

If I didn't aready have a 2 door 36"h x 36"w x 12"d steel cabinet, I'd get a lateral file with flip up doors. Its SO nice having one place to go to to grab tools.

Will you be doing any work that produces dust?

If so, plan for ENCLOSED storage...you will regret it if you do not.

As others are pointing out...file cabinets in all shapes and sizes are the key storage component...fit the sizes to meet your power/hand tools requirements.

I have a work cart that I keep adding to, and decided to start adding some drawers to it for corded power tool storage and for my nail guns. The bottom drawer is positioned temporarily until I get a chance to modify the cart a little more and make room for a 3rd drawer.

On the end of the cart I added some pegboard and a door to make a shallow cabinet that holds my corded drills.

For my cordless tools I made this cabinet on the wall that holds my most commonly used tools on the outside and has additional storage inside.
