Storing a toolbox outside?

I was wondering if storing my toolbox under my carport away from the rain would still make my tools rust from the humidity? It would be covered in a tarp.

I was thinking that the tools that were not chrome, could be treated with T-5 maybe?

No possible theft in the area. And I would lock it and chain it to a nearby post. Nothing real special in the box, just regular Craftsman tools, and HF stuff.

I wouldn't advise doing it. Just takes a couple of misty rainy days, or a little fog to get at them.

Ditto, but if you do you'll need to make several anti-rust bags out of the crystal cat litter and a porous material such as very course hemp or flax. BTW, this is on my to-do-list. Picked up the cat litter at Kroger and the material at Hobby Lobby.

Damp-rid would also help.

Some of my tools have rusted in my non climate controlled garage even with camphor blocks, desiccant packs and vci paper. The trouble is having open drawers and lids during the humid day, then trapping the moisture in when closing them and the cool nights roll in.

My tools rust in my box in the garage that's not heated. I do my best to keep them oiled up but it still happens. In the early spring I open the garage up and have a fan blowing to dry the concrete floor .

Oil your tools down with CRC 3-36 or WD-40 or similar light oil. Only way to really keep steel from rusting is to coat it in oil. Might make a mess of your toolbox drawer liners though.
