Storing a Wheelbarrow?

Anybody got any good ideas on how to stow a wheelbarrow in the garage? Its the bulkiest, awkward sized thing in my garage and takes up a ton of floor space.

Our HOA doesn't allow sheds, so that idea is out. I have a 10 ft ceiling in my garage....but not sure how to get it up in the air or on the wall in the most efficient way.

Any ideas?

If you want it up in the air and not taking up wall space, I'll bet you could drill a couple of holes in the edge of the bin and rig up a pulley system on the ceiling that connects to some heavy duty carabiners that clip into the bin. That way you wouldn't have it sticking out from the wall.

When you are done using it, place it smack dab in the middle of your front yard with the shovels and rakes hanging out of it and call it lawn art.

When they complain about it, tell them it is staying there until they revise the shed rule.

Wheelbarrows are right next to the mortar pans, scaffold's and mixer.....where else should they be?

Hide it behind a cpl strategically placed bushes. For years we used to hang all of our long ext ladders on the foundation of a wing on the house.Uhhh, and thats the front of the house.Thing was, there was a line of bushes 7-10 feet tall....30 foot long. There was enough room between bushes and house you could hide a small boat.....wait,we used to do that too, haha. The bushes were started 25 or so years ago to sort of screen HVAC units from view.Over time they not only did that but created the nicest junk space ever. The best part was it was on the front of our $$$ house, the last place anyone would expect, haha.

Making a good idea better ...

If you have an unfinished ceiling (open to the rafters), hang the pulley on the peak end from the ridge beam (do not use lag bolts or eye screws; bolt through the beam). Connect the rope to the front lip of the wheelbarrow and lift with the pan toward the wall. Tie the rope off to a cleat.

Up and out of your way !

I assume you don't have a crawlspace. That's where I've always kept mine, no more than I use it.

Thanks guys, these are some great ideas. As many of you can understand, I'm also worried about how its going to look in the garage. I don't know why that matters, it just does!

I have two kids under 3, so most importantly I worry about safety with things hanging overhead. But having it up high would keep me from losing wall space.

Thanks for the ideas and the help!

Wheelbarrows belong to their own sub-culture and don't deserve their own space in our coveted garages. Mine stays outside all year long behind some 10 foot junipers. Nobody can see them and that's what they deserve.

I've found for most of my use at least, 5 gallon buckets which i always have on hand and a handcart (which i use lots) pretty much works for me. If i had a place to put one though which i don't i'd take the wheel barrow though =)

Your HOA prohibits garden sheds, but do they prohibit *ahem* children's club houses *cough*. Someone else on here recently built a kid's clubhouse for the same reason.

If you have a fence then you could use one of the above methods and hang it on the fence. Also home depot and Lowes sell these tracks. One house on my way home actually has his wheel barrow and his racks and shovels hanging on the back if his house.

Shed roof attached to house with privacy fence around it. Or...Hang it on the privacy fence at the back of your yard and put privacy fence around it with gate on the front like the screen around dumpsters at the fast food place. Put it on a skid and cover with a tarp.Out of sight and protected.

Why in the world would you lift it?
Push it up against the wall, tip it up straight, and bungee cord it in place.

If you want to thumb your nose at the HOA you could put a junk yard bucket seat in it.
Set it in the yard and call it a stroller for when you take the kids for a walk.
(You do take the kids for a walk, don’t you?)

I had been leaning mine up against the back of the garage, the side of the house, etc.

Then I had the idea of loaning it to the new neighbors. It's been months since they moved in, and I haven't had to look at the wheelbarrow since. (True story!) I'll walk across the street and get it if I need it.
