Storing and carrying 1" insert bits?

Like the title says. Is there any GOOD way to store and carry a big assortment of these in a compact manner? I like to keep an assortment of slotted, Phillips, Torx, Pozi, Robertson and Hex in my work bag but haven't found a small container that keeps them organized. Most containers that I've found have a lot of extra space for bit holders or are just bigger than they need to be. I just want a simple case that can hold a couple dozen bits.

Ive used Plano Stowaways (thin series) for years now, and never had a problem with moisture, compartments getting mixed, etc.

I use them in various sizes, not just for bits, but aviation splices, termination caps, environmental splices, rocker switches, heat shrink, etc... I think Ive got 34 of them in my smallest Vidmar.

That's my "travel size" bit box in the small drawer of a Craftsman toolbox, for size reference... it's currently got some shortages, haha.

The two larger-sized ones (splices and adhesive-lined heat shrink) are in the top drawer of a small Vidmar.

I find the Plano Stowaways especially well suited for Raychem splices, at over $1.50 each one box holds over $2000 worth of them damn things!
Keeps the "investment" protected, organized, and clean.

Get or make a .22 cal ammo belt. Easy to make from 3/4" elastic. If you can't run a sewing machine, I'm sure you know someone who does...

What a great idea! A tool bandolier. One for insert bits running diagonal one way and another holding sockets running the other direction along with a tool belt for the rachets and screwdrivers! Kinda like the Frito Bandito of tools

(if anyone is offended by the reference to Frito Bandito, my apologies)

I have a metal stand we made at work that holds all my torx bits, everything else is in a plastic Jandorf box.

You can see it here:

I use the Plano boxes too.
Just use the dividers to custom size compartments and keep styles separated.
I keep the boxes in a .50 cal ammo can along with a bunch of various smaller tools for work.

Mechanics Time Savers Model 580
+1 on the Mts580 and mts581 Its one of the few ive seen without storage for a longer bit holder

here is a cheap one with bit holder storage though you can find a similar set at Harbor freight for half the price

I have been considering buying a set and replacing some of the bits with ones that I will use more often.
I have been toying with picking up this set for a while

I like the little rubber bit strips that come with cheap cordless drills.
Still building up a collection ...

I've tried the cheap red ones but it seems like bits always fall out.

Some great ideas in this thread. I especially like the looks of those Mechanics Time Savers.

1st choice, the dewalt 'book' style cases. Second choice, a gum container.

I forget what brand gum,as I don't chew gum but the wife keeps some in the car. its shaped to fit in the cup holder, has a smaller opening and then a much larger D shaped opening on most of the top. Bits I go through most often like P2 or S2 I keep in those. All others sit in the dewalts.

There's plenty of good suggestions here if you need more than a few different style bits but most of the time I don't. I need P2, P3 sometimes, S2, sometimes a 7/16 slotted, or I use a precision bit driver (for the discussion of bit storage, I really like the ifixit set) since I tend to work on smaller things most of the time.

Bosch makes a small cloth case that folds over on itself and then latches. Similar to an ammo holder. Lowes has them. I carry one in my toolbag and have never lost a bit.
