I often use a bench grinder and a buffing machine for preparing parts for my cars. The problem is that they take up so much space so I came up with an "invention" which helps solve the problem. Hope you like it!

How does it lock in place in the upright position or does it?

Somebody sells those I have seen them before. My issue with that is you can't get a good access to the underside of the wheel with a bigger piece. Too close to the bench.

You could extend the square tubing in his pic so it sticks out futher from the bench. Of course you can only go so far but you should be able to go another foot or so.

Which works fine unless you are polishing something like a bellhousing or an intake manifold or supercharger that is a little bigger. :shocking:

I welded a piece of 1 inch square tube to the front angle on the bench, drilled an oversize hole through it and then I have a bolt which is fixed through the base of the grinder that locates in the hole and is fastened by a wing nut
Thanks

I dont know if you have noticed but on picture 1380 of my original thread at the right hand end of the bench I have welded on some angles which I use to clamp sheet metal for folding. Very much like the metal folders you can buy and put in the vice but this one is permanently fixed to the bench.

My next task is to fix my guillotine to the bench and have it so it stored away when not being used!!! I could use a similar method to the grinders but then it would be working parralel to the front edge of the bench and would be awkward to use. Any ideas???

Have any of you come up with any space saving ideas like these.

I suppose you could mount the grinder buffer at 90 degrees to the way it is shown and then one wheel would be completely free from the bench and you could do what you like with it
