Storing equipment outside under porch?

We just moved into a new house and are getting everything sorted. We have a standard 2 car garage that we are putting shelves in and a couple work benches in. But we have some equipment we want to put outside, such as the lawnmower, gas cans, weed eater and attachments, etc.

We were going to buy/build a 10x8 shed but they are a little pricey and we really do not have a flat spot to put the shed.

We have space under our deck that is roughly 10x10 that we are thinking of putting some lattice up, or possibly enclosing with pickets and storing everything under there. We would also put up some under deck water protection to keep rainwater off the equipment

Would we have any issues with humidity, etc on the engines in our equipment?

It should be noted we have bigger plans for the backyard that include a pool, fencing and much later a standalone garage/workshop. So I really do not want to spend a lot on this as it will be for a year or two at most. That is why I am not interested in leveling a spot and/or building a platform for a shed.

You should probably update your location so we know where you are.

But in most areas I would not hesitate to do what you described.

I would go for it just use a tarp or water protection like you said you were going to and have fun with it. I know a few people who live in HOAs that made a entire work room under their porch.

goggle under-deck storage. There hundreds of ideas on how to do this!

I have the same senerio here! Have a large deck, have started the dig-out with a small Bobcat. Expect the area to be approximately 15 x 20, maybe larger for Bobcat, tractor, and miscellaneous garden stuff.

It's a lot cheaper i.e. ~ 1,000 vs spending $5,000+, and it isn't an eyesore in the landscape, and it's attached to the house so it might be less suspetable to being broken into!!
Cheers !!!!

Hang it inside or outside?

We want as much as we can outside due to space.

I just wanted to see if others were storing stuff outside and it seems as if that is not an issue. Now the wheels are turning and I have some better ideas on how to enclose it.

We have a screened porch at my Dad's house that is 36" off the ground. The bottom is wrapped in lattice and has a door near the porch stairs. He keeps his wheelbarrow's and some other stuff under there, but it's dusty.

I wouldn't keep gas powered stuff underneath the porch but weather resistant stuff no problem.

Cheers

I have a similar situation as Jim No Garage except I keep my gas powered mower under the porch. Being a screened in porch, it keeps the rain off for the most part. Other than a little dusty, I've had no issues with excessive weathering of equipment. I also use a couple of plastic deck boxes for those things that need a little more weather protection.

I live in south Alabama and have stored my riding mower under our house since 2005. No problems at all

I've got a 16 X 16 screen porch I store my mower under. It has about an 8' to 9' ceiling height. Also have a lot of **** under there I need to clean out as well.

Mower has been under there for at least 3 years now with no adverse affects.

4x8 sheet of corrugated metal or plastic, eight or so 2x4s and a couple of tarps. Use some pallets for the floor to keep the stuff off the ground. One authentic halfass, temporary 4x8 shed, for less than $100.

Years ago I built something similar for my firewood, I don't see why it wouldn't keep a lawnmower and such protected. If you can fit it under the porch, even better.

Thieves would be my main concern.

A friend of mine bought a "tent shed" to store a bunch of stuff in. It was similar to the one in the link below but it didn't have a floor. You just set it up wherever you want it and stick your stuff in it. What my friend did, he put down some gravel and made it fairly level first and then he set up the shed. He has had it for several years now and it seems to be working pretty well for him.

I have so much equipment that almost everything is outdoors. I leave the smaller stuff inside such as weed wackers and chainsaws. I like to have my snowblower inside as well.

I plan on closing it in with wood. Run some 2x4s from post to post and install some paneling like this. Probably paint it to match the porch and do some white trim. I want it to look decent. Plus putting the panels up top to catch the water from the deck.

I do like the tent idea...

Security is not an issue, I own a security company so we'll throw a contact on the door or outdoor motion in there.

When I first got married and moved out on my own, we lived in a mobile home that I bought for $1000. No garage, no shed, no nothing. I kept the lawn mower under the front deck (well, just the engine/deck, the handle stuck out, lol). It was fine.

I don't know why you would want to "google" it,but just get some tarps and store it under there....you are making this more complicated than it is.

Living in your neck of the woods, here is my experience. Lawn mower always was stored in the garage. Got this hair brain idea to move to under my deck, covered it. Mind you it always started second pull, a Yazo 15 hp.

Season goes by, remove the cover for spring. Took an hour to get it to run, oh it would run, but like ****. Worked thru the problem, got it running as it should, cleared out a spot in the garage, the rest of the story.

I say storing any equipment outside is a **** shoot, better to park the car outside, it's made to live there. Machines or light duty powered equipment not up to the challenge. BTW purchased the mower in 87, use it today 2 pulls. speaks for itself...

Unless you seal the ground the moisture will collect under tarps. Another example, people love to cover the gas grill. Next summer replacing the the rusted burners, OH the exterior looks stunning LOL,

Why, no way for the moisture to evaporate, a mini rain forest.

Good luck

The fact that your lawnmower starts with 2 pulls has nothing to do about where you store it and more about how its put away.

We live on a corner lot with the backyard being seen from the street until we can put up a privacy fence. This area also faces the neighbor's driveway since the house is at an angle. I don't want the neighbor to have to look at my son's Jeep parts, lawnmowers etc.

I haven't parked a car in a garage in umm, well never. It's been jet skis, 4 wheelers etc,
