I have a bunch of hole saws and I was thinking of making a display board to store them anyone have any other ideas? I have up to 4.5", right now they are just floating around a drawer, some have cases, but I think the case is only nice if you are taking them with you.

I nest them in a drawer in my tool box. I think I have three stacks now. Can't stack them too high or the drawer won't close. Also need additional stacks as some won't fit inside the next larger size.

My wood sets are in a drawer in my work table. The bi-metal set is in my tool box along with the other drill bit sets. I have a few single loose hole saws that reside in the drawer also.

I have a set in a case in my toolbox. The big ones and all the duplicates live in an old kennedy along with miscellaneous drills and end mills.

I keep mine in the deep drawer in my KRL. The skinny tall one I put them in the drop in slide box

I keep my Dewalt set in it's case and the larger 3-6" ones in my bit drawer with the auger bits. I have a small Mac set in my truck, or toolbox also.

I bought a hole saw set in blow molded case so that's where most of them stay, the loose ones I stack together. Hole saws are not a highly used tool in my shop as I'm never happy with the holes they make.

I was hoping that someone was storing them without using a drawer. I may have to figure out the best way for me all on my own. I was thinking of a board, then I thought a cabinet, then I thought I could do a similar setup for grinding wheels, then I got distracted and did nothing. I like the idea of a tool board, but I would like to have it be efficient as far as space is concerned. If I used a cabinet it could have some along the back wall, then when you open the doors there would be more. I could also keep all the extensions there as well. Some of mine are easy to nest, but I also have a bunch that are the quick connect style and they do not nest at all.

Mine are loose in my "hole saw" drawer, but it's a shallow drawer so they're not nested. Of course, they started out all nice and lined up in order of size, but that disappeared shortly. I find it's usually easy to find the size I'm looking for in the 1st or 2nd try just because they're easy to spot in the 1/4"-1/2" increments I have. If you have them down to 1/8 or 1/16" increments, I could see it becoming a pain.

What about a shadowing them in some foam in a drawer? You could organize and even nest them as desired and label for ease of a quick ID. Plus it'd be super easy to make the foam cutouts with the holesaws.

My Milwaukee set stays in its plastic case for storage. The random collection I had before getting a Black Friday deal on the Milwaukees is in the top tray of the metal toolbox that my corded drill is in along with the mandrels and spare pilot bits.

I can see why the OP would want the easy access to them on a board or inside a cabinet but to me the wall space is too valuable to store things that could be stored in a smaller space while gathering less dust.

Just curious if the OP has multiples of specific sizes to account for or if its just one of each in various sizes. If there are multiples to deal with, a rack similar to what Home Depot displays single pieces in might be a good option.

Strouty,

This is from a GJ thread that includes basically the most bad-*** workbench ever...has a nice idea for hole saw storage. The fact that it uses the pegs means you don't have to mess around making custom shaped holes to fit each and every saw size you have, but that at the same time you can store them clearly and orderly. This is probably how I will go about it once I'm at that point:

Another option which is a bit more crude but could still work out well, is to mount a thick piece of polystyrene foam, and store them like this:

I believe that idea is originally from Family Handyman magazine.

Our shop we have a DeWalt set that just stays in the box. It usually gets used outside of the shop anyway. The box is kept in a cabinet on a shelf with drill bits.

We do have a few larger pieces that are currently just stacked in one another next to the boxed set. But I plan on just driving a screw in the back of the cabinet to act as a peg to hang the larger hole saws. Mainly just to take up less shelf surface.

For easy portability I keep a very comprehensive set of hole saws, from about 3"-down, nested, by 1/4", 1/8", and 1/16th's, in a canvas tool bag. With them I keep various arbors, extensions and pilot bits. Larger hole saws live in a cabinet drawer.

I should say that I am looking to store the set that stays at my shop. The truck ones will stay in the case. I do have drawers but I was hoping to use them for other tools. I am thinking wall space would be near the drill press. Some inspirational pics for sure. I do have multiples of some sizes but the idea is to have a set that is easy to see and get to.

The ones that came in a set live in their box. The ones that I bought separately I try to nest in a drawer but I have several that are close enough in size they don't. One of the biggest 4-1/2" I think stores the spare arbors and misc hardware/attachments I might have used with them last time. I think one of of them stores my countersinks also.

Back in the day I only had 2 and they were stored on pegboard at that time.
