How do you guys store your lawn equipment in the garage? I have some shelves and wall mount hooks for the weedeater, blower, gas cans, and ext. cords. The lawn mower sits inbetween the 2nd and 3rd car bay. I might be nitpicking, but I think it throws off the whole shop look of my garage. I assume most of you have an external shed of some sort to keep all of the lawn tools?

External shed would/will be my choice. Keep the garage for the cars/bikes/clean tools. The shed will be for the compressor/mower/dirty tools.

I got one of those plastic assemble in one afternoon sheds last year. I put it up myself, pretty easy to do. I still don't have any decent storage in it though, the shelves are somewhat flimsy and I've got bulky items that should be stored somewhere . . . might be building shelf to go above the mower.

I did the same. I got a 7.5 x 7 one from Sears. It went together in about an hour and holds my mower, pressure washer and spreader. I put in a couple of shelves and the wife keeps all of her gardening stuff in it as well. When I redid the garage, the agreement was that the garage is for car stuff, the shed is for garden stuff and the storage under the stairs was for household stuff. So far, so good.

It is sort of funny, my workshop planning started out with the idea of a garden shed to store the lawn equipment. Then I figured if I was going to go to the trouble anyway, I'd make it larger so I'd have some more space so that I could do a little woodworking in there. At that point it was getting pretty big, so I had the bright idea to move the woodworking shop up to the second floor and build a garage under it.

Mind you, this was all in the planning stages - nothing was being physically built at that point.

So I ended up with a design for a two car garage with an extra bay and a half off to the side for lawn equipment, tools, and such and then a second floor for the woodworking shop.

Ended up doing all the work myself with some help from family and friends here and there. Only subbed out backhoe work for the footings, pouring the concrete floors, and installing the garage doors. At the time I didn't have access to a backhoe, was a little concerned about pouring the slabs and getting a good finish on them, and the garage door installer took about three hours where it would have taken me most of a weekend to figure everything out and get it all adjusted properly.

So I now have about 1600 s.f. between the two floors and have it stuffed full of vehicles, tools, parts, more tools, lawn equipment, seasoning wood, more tools... Well, you get the point.

And I'm standing here looking at it all and thinking about building a garden shed to at least get all of the lawn equipment out of there so that I have some more room... :)

When I built my detached garage, I divided it into two "rooms". One is 28x34 for the cars/tools/projects, and then 28x14 in the back for compressor/lawn tractor/4-wheeler/garden tools. It may not be an option for you, but it really has worked out slick for me. Now I have 2 neighbors that want to do the same thing since they've seen mine. I would definitely do it this way if I had it to do over again, but I might build the "shed" portion bigger if I could. Then I have an attached 3-car for daily drivers.

Separate shed of course. The way I explained it to the wife was, "Do you keep the smelly trash cans and grass covered lawn mower in YOUR kitchen? Then why would you expect to find these things in MY garage?

What did you do for the floor of this shed, and how does it anchor down to the ground. I'm looking for a cheap way to get my riding mower out of the garage, but I'm in a development, so aesthetics count....

It comes with a rigid plastic floor that screws together. The floor has provisions to be reinforced with 2x4's if needed. I simply created a flat spot on the ground next to my fence on the side of the house and built it there. It is sheltered on three sides by the fence and house and we don't get much significant wind, so it should be good to go.

i cant have a shed in my neighbor hood so i went with the rubbermaid outside storage container, its about 3 1/2 feet high 6 feet long and 3-4 feet deep. i placed it on the backside of the garage and planted some bushes around it so its not very noticeable. this summer i had to empty it and place it on timbers since it settled somewhat. its not all that secure so it gets filled with flower pots, seed fertilizer, hoses and hose reels etc but it freed up enough space in the garage to eliminate an entire shelf. rakes, shovels etc get hung on the wall in one corner, the lawnmower gets the handle removed and lifted into my loft for winter, it ***** but its worth the floor space.
