"Story Board" Examples

I have an unusual request.

As I'm the utilitarian type, creativity is not my strong suit. I'm preparing for an upcoming vintage motorcycle show in June, and will be showing - for the first time - my restoration project I've been working on for several years. I'd like to prepare a "story board" representing the gist of the project, but would like to do something a bit more elaborate than the typical photos-in-the-album presentation. Without overdoing it, though.

I have original dealer brochures and advertising, plus literally hundreds of photos documenting the entire project, from the day the bike was brought home and unloaded though the finished project, including a video of the first start up after rebuild.

Where I need help is with is ideas or examples - preferably with photos - of story boards or presentations that others may have done or seen that were eye-catching or were well done.

Any help would be appreciated...

How about building a powerpoint presentation that you could project on the back wall of your display area, set it up to run continuously. You would be able to put the description you want to each picture and even include the start-up video. Once done with that you can easily print and laminate color copies of the presentation for one or two flip stands at the front of your booth. Your biggest challenge will be selecting the pictures and descriptions you want and getting them in the media you need in 30 days. Good luck with your show!

Keep it short and to the point. Peoples span of attention in that venue is short. Your audience is of a similar background to yours, so what parts of your story did you find most interesting? Have an introduction , a body, and a closure. Keep it simple.

The attached is a photo of the "story board" I created for my motorcycle restoration project. I settled on this approach after doing a little research on the 'net and going to a couple of local classic car shows this spring/early summer and seeing what others had done.

My objectives were to make it brief and to-the-point while touching on the key elements:

> The left middle is a brief synopsis of the project
> The right middle are actual photos of the engine disassembly & rebuild process (a particularly interesting component in my opinion)
> the top is an actual period full page advertising of the actual subject bike
> at the very bottom I mounted the actual original pistons that were removed from the engine - sort of a novelty piece

The easel was something I made from extra lumber I had around, and is foldable and easily moved and stored.

The last show my buddy entered his car in, they brought a small flat screen monitor and had it playing through the photos. It allows the photos to be played randomly and it keeps people from thumbing through a book. He had the book to, if anyone wanted to see more in depth, but most were happy to just stand there.

One of those digital photo frames would work well also. They're pretty cheap these days.
