I use coffee filters that I buy in bulk, but it takes time and the filters need to be changed often. The important thing is to remove as much of the solids from the ER as you can. I filter after each use, usually two or three times before storing in the original container. I have about five gallons (for big items) and it has lasted for several years with the occasional refreshing due to spillage or evaporation.

Between my "dirty" supply and the fresh stuff I use for other projects, I only have to buy a new gallon only every two to three years.

I do the same thing with Simple Green and CLR.

I'm a great believer in coffee filters too. But they do clog easily. And it helps that our coffee service at work brings 1000 filters for every 48 packs of coffee...

I've had zero luck with coffee filters. wanna share a pic of your set up? I've just used it in a funnel and i barely get any out.

If you let them touch the supporting surface, then stuff doesn't flow through. I generally have a clean coffee can and the filter. The ones I have a good supply of are the cup type.

The I generally use an elastic band and tuck the extra filter area inside the can. This maximizes the area that the fluid you're filtering.

I use Bunn filters (they're a little larger), a funnel, and a quart size paint cup. I also use a canning funnel on top to keep the filter from slipping down.

How about the paint filters and accompanying stand from Harbor Freight? They are quite fine and would work well. :)

Paint filters would be ok for the large particles, but to sort out the finer bits that weaken the solution, you would still need to use a finer filter.

Strain as soon as possible to stop it from continuing to work on the crud left in the liquid.
Keep the used liquid in a separate container than the new clean stuff.
