I found this thing in the back of one of my Dad's old cabinets. Anyone have a guess what it might have been for? The hammer faces are beat down considerably.
That is called a crate hammer, used for pulling out large staples and taking apart the crates that machines or anything that came in wooden crates back in the day.

As was said, this thing is basically the vintage version of a box cutter. Once upon a time almost everything came in wood crates and boxes, and it took more than a razor blade to open those packages.
