Strange layout + mezzanine: will this layout work?

Hi everyone!

I posted my new build thread over in the garage gallery, but thought I would try my luck here for lighting plans.

Here is the layout I came up with for lighting:

They're on the floor to better illustrate the layout, the issue is the rear most two fixtures, one will probably go under the mezzanine, the other on the ceiling. They are off center, I'm thinking if it will bug me more that they're off center from the walls or from the vertical fixtures :eyecrazy:

The plan is to use 4ft T8 fixtures, with LED bulbs. Looking to push 5000K+ cct, 80+cri. Someone mentioned this combo was good. Can anyone recommend something better?

I would turn the last two lights. With the low ceiling height back there consider 18" off the walls and running 2 lights end to end. This will eliminate a shadow when at the sink or bench. Also I would add 2 more end to end in the center of the that ceiling. As for the main area 3 lights per row will make a big difference. As the years go by your eyes will thank you. To bad these sold out so fast, would be perfect.

Hi,

Tell me if I understood correctly:

-Add a third row of vertical lights in the main area (total being 9; 3-3-3).
-Turn the horizontal 2 lights, make the vertical, add 2 more of them, and put 2 under the mezzanine (~5' overhang), and 2 on the ceiling in line with the main area lights (to cover the bench and sink)

Is that what you meant?

Any reason you suggested light troffers over classic T8 fixtures?

Yes to 9 lights in main area.
I didn't notice that the mezzanine area was under 5'. Thought it was flush with the back wall in main area. Even still run them all the same direction.
And yes to two lights under and 2 over the sink and bench area.
With the garage door open it will cover the first 3 lights. I need to check out your new build thread to understand a 18' door. I put a 16' door in 18' wide garage and wish I would have done a 14' door for more wall space, and to protect my compressor from the elements when the door is open.
As for the troffer light link they can be surface mounted and unless Home Depot messes up my order, 9 of them will replace my 4' T8 lights. 3 rows of 3 on a 14'x17' with 7'6" ceiling height.

quick question, wouldn't the above main section layout be ok as is if I use the light fixture I linked, it's a 2 lamp fixture, meaning it would be 12lamps for 6 fixtures.

Your layout and number of fixtures looks fine. I'd also turn the 2 in the mezzanine area - just for aesthetics.

I recommend moving the lights further away from the walls. You'll likely end up with perimeter shelving, cabinets, etc on those walls with the lights too close. Move them out to at least 3' away from the walls. Especially with 8' between fixtures.

Just going to post an image of the light fixture,I feel it might not be clear what equipment I plan on using.

Also, I'm getting conflicting replies. Some say to add more lights, others are saying move the lights closer to the walls and someone else is saying to move them away from the walls :lol_hitti

What will it be? :p

Fixture to fixture spacing should be double the fixture to wall distance.

I have the same number of fixtures in half the space and get 50FC at the work surface, so double the lights!!!

What is your mounting height?

Hence the reason for having someone do a layout for you. Without one, you're just getting wild guesses.
