Strange question, do they make lights that screw into a 4" junction box?

Sort of like the light sockets that will screw directly into the box w/ the octagon boxes? The reason I want to do this is I have a piece of conduit under a floor joist into a 4" square box and if I were to go to an octagon box the knockout is dead center in the box and the conduit feeding it will no longer be center (box cannot go up anymore to fix that angle). I know they make a square to octagon adapter but that just adds bulk. Or perhaps I just do this if I can find them cheaper and individually.

Been googling but not finding much so here I am.

I don't want anything fancy as it's going to be sitting atop a hot water heater in a basement. HD has adapter rings but they're 5/8" deep. May just live w/ that.

Simplest solution: Drill a hole in a blank cover, add whatever lamp base you want to the cover. Lots of options at Lowe's, for example

Thanks. Given the bottom of the plastic/porcelain fixtures are exposed and wires are right there I'd have to drill out a good 3" hole in the middle and tap 2 holes for screws. Was hoping for a bolt in solution here. Seems there isn't one w/ a square 4" junction box unless I go w/ some type of flush light which I don't want.

You've fairly missed the point.
Depending on *WHICH* lamp base you choose, you could drill as little as a single 3/8" hole in the plate. The porcelain, plastic bases exist in several designs as well, some have recessed connections that again, would require nothing but a hole for the wire. The porcelain lamp base that you have (or are picturing) is only one of *many* options for mounting a lamp socket.
But, whatever.

I wasn't aware the porcelain bases came in any form other than exposed wires on the bottom but I don't do much with them to be honest. I'll take a look while at HD today and see what I can come up with.
