Well the garage is getting closer to being finished. One of the reasons for the build is to entertain and have parties. I am putting a 50" HD TV that will be wired with surround sound. The question I have is that when we have parties I would like to have music videos playing and not sure where I can download them and burn them on a DVD to play while eating and drinking. Where do I get them from? Thanks....Mark

Echoing e-tek's suggestion, put the cable box on MusicChoice (I'm guessing MuchMusic is the Canadian equivalent).

I would suggest a music channel lineup from your satellite company or cable company.

You start downloading from LimeWire your PC will be infected wih Spyware and viruses in no time.

Just an idea - on half.com you can buy used DVD's all day long of pretty much any performer for a couple bucks each.

half.com is also a GREAT source for text books if any of you guys are college aged or have kids in college.

X 1000!!!

You familiar with bittorrent? Funny thing is, years ago I was so lame (even more so than now), I would record videos from VH1 and MTV (when they actually used to play videos), but no longer have any of the video tapes

Yes, I use BitTorrent often. Haven't downloaded music in along time though.

All of the *wire programs are fantastic........for getting viruses. Either go with the satellite music stations as mentioned, or wire in connections for a laptop. Then you can stream audio or videos over wifi (if you don't have a wired network connection).

Pandora is wonderful... just hook a laptop up to your system w/ wireless internet... or even an iPhone w/ an unlimited usage plan and you're set.

If you have cable or satellite, I'd try using that 1st unless you also want to play movies out in the garage as well - Top Gear anyone?

I've got my TV hooked up to an Apple TV and stream music, photos and movies to it. You could also do this with Boxee or XBMC.

If it's just music, then an old laptop with iTunes or something similar should work fine. You can then d/l mp3 from wherever...

get satalite radio and a home receiver, endless commercial free music, and no changing CD's all night....

I have a subscription to Rhapsody and hook up my junk laptop to my stereo out in the garage. Complete control of my music and it has nearly every song/artist you can think of.

As far as videos, same deal with a decent video card on your computer. Hook that up to your HDTV and go to You Tube, etc. Not very hard and a cool idea for parties!

My garage is used OFTEN for partying. Go ahead and smoke, spill, puke, whatever. No problem. Plus, Momma and kid don't get disturbed at 3:00 am.

Don't forget Netflix. I have a PS3 in my basement that I use to stream Netflix movies through my wireless. Just make sure you upgrade your router to something fast like an 802.11n. Otherwise, you'll be waiting all day for things to download.

Nowadays you can get any number of dvd players that will stream video via the internet. I have one and use it for Netflix, Pandora...works great.

My satellite has Sirrus channels. Have you checked your cable/satellite to see if they have music channels?

Lots of plugins/addons for Firefox will let you save videos from YouTube - some even in HD. Not really into music vids myself but I have many other interesting items - How to make things, trains plowing snow, guys throwing chunks of sodium in water, 500kv switches opening, convert your small pickup to electric, etc... You may need to d/l a .flv file player (also free) as that is what YouTube videos are mostly. Hook the laptop to the TV and you are set.

Just hook your TV up to a PC, use Pandora<-free, or go to the public library <<---FREE! and check out some Audio discs (CD's) plug them into Itunes<- free. It just imports all the music. Play the audio through HDMI connection via an itunes playlist of any of your music that you own or borrow, whatever.
Run it from your sound card n the PC to the surround sound system.

Since you can afford a 55" TV and surround sound system in your garage, I assume you can afford a little laptop or desktop that runs your audio collection from Itunes.

I do not have cable in my garage but I have a Slingbox on the DVR in my office at the house and wireless on my PC in the garage. I can watch TopGear or look up the torque specs for the balljoint bolts on the same device. Most videos are available on youtube and can be stored locally with the right tools. Just setup a play list and let them roll!

Ok downloading videos using torrents and youtube is possible but will take a **** load of work on your part. My suggestion, TubeRadio.fm. Watch the video below about it and then spend some time playing with it. This should be really close to what you are looking for.

Basically you type an artist into the search engine and it goes to youtube and complies all the music videos relating to that artist. It refines the results by listing them by album. You can then pick an album and add it to a play list. When you are done with your play list hit play and it will show you the play list, album art, music video, lyrics, bio, etc. For your situation you can make the play list and then click the video to make it full size. From then on it will play all the videos without exiting from full screen.
