Strange tool mod

I found this modified chisel in an auction box. The end has been rounded and it has been curved through its' length. The only thing I can think of is a digging tool for use with a metal detector. It's 1 1/2" wide x 3" long.

Could that be a De-Barking Spud, for striping bark off of logs ?

I've seen chisels modified like that for carving purposes, but never one that big. Maybe for carving totem pole sized things?

Looks like it has been made into a gouge.

Looks like a log home tool. For notching and gouging.

I agree, it's an inside gouge for carving wood. 1 1/2" is pretty big but a nice size and not out of the ordinary. How long is the handle?

Timber framing gouge. Used for fitting logs/timbers; I have a few that are much larger, with a 12" blade and 12" handle you get great leverage and control on paring cuts.

Wide gouge for doing chair seats? Does it appear to have been sharp enough for this?
