It's been discussed on here before that mouting your bench grinder to a pole is a great way to save bench space and get some positive use out of those dang poles. Since I figure we'll move again one day, I didn't want anything too permanent, so I made this "********" mount out of scrap and some 5" straps. Two straps at the top, one at the bottom of the leg. It's very solid and I finally have my grinder in a handy spot. Pardon the craftsmanship, but it gets the job done...

Looks like it'd work great, be handy for using a buffing wheel too, not having the table get in the way..that always seems to be my problem..polishing something out and running into the table..haha

two thumbs up from me!

Nothing exciting behind the swirls ... I was hoping it was something embarrassing, but there is no reason for the swirls except to highlight the grinder.

It looked to me like that dog had some kind of evil laser destructo-vision. :)

(You also win for the most-X-rated-and-yet-not-X-rated subject line.)

But the stand is nice. You may have explained it before, but what was the original function of the base, and how is it mounted to the floor?

I think the pole is in his garage, kind of like a structural member... and he is utilizing it by putting the bench grinder on it? Just a guess....

I had a pole like that in my old 2 car garage, bugged the **** out of me.

Just a structural pole in the garage. It's not terribly obtrusive, but at least it's now got a purpose. I'm going to run a wire to it and mount a 4-outlet box on it too eventually. I could have probably just strapped the mount to the pole and called it good, but I put the leg on it to keep it from working it's way down the pole.

Glad you all liked the post title!

Not really trying to hide my toys...but it did seem to keep you guys guessing! One is a Honda 250SX trike, the other a '83 750 Shadow. I'm a big fan of '80's Honda bikes. To me, it was their pinnacle of technology and new ideas.

Nice usage of the pole in the garage. The only thing mine was good for was putting dents in my wife's car door everytime she got out of it...

I hate 80's honda bikes... but only because I worked on them enough to get sick of em. I am a factory certified Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and BMW technician. they are good bikes... just get tired of them after 10 years of doing that same ole stuff to them. Havent touched a bike in about 5 years, and honestly dont miss them. At least, not working on them anyway.

I like that! As you said, good use of something you can't get rid of.

Another idea would be to mount a small frame for a vise on it.

That's a really good idea! I have my bench grinder sitting on my welding bench at the moment due to having to loose my other bench that grinder was on. I happen to have a couple of support poles right next to my welding bench so I'll be doing this setup myself.

I can't see the photos here at work but it sounds like a good idea.

If you think '80s Honda bikes is their pinnacle you need to go ride some new bikes. lol

I finished mine this evening. I used some u bolts and brackets made for holding exhaust pipe together. They are 3/8 U bolts so I don't think its going to go anywhere. I'm going to try to find a couple of piece of rubber to stick between the bolts and the grinder as it transmits vibration up the pole. Other than that I'm really happy with it. I happen to have an unused outlet directly above where I put it. I didn't paint it yet cause its about 30 outside.

Nice Griff93! I noticed you have the same band saw that I have. The legs gave up on mine a while ago though. Since I don't have much floor space I shelve it and put it on the bench when I need it.

I see you are just up the road in H'ville!

Thanks. Thanks again for the idea. I'd been trying to figure out where to put my grinder to get it off of my welding table.

I actually ended up with two of those saws. The motor on one of them died and I picked up another one from the guy I bought my welder from. I found another motor for the other one later on. Other than the motor dying on the one they have given very good service for the cost. I've cut enough stuff with them to go through 6 blades now. I didn't even notice that you're in Birmingham. I got to pull a part down there sometimes because most of the junkyards in Huntsville ****.
