Streamlight strion makes whining noise?

I just got a brand new lime green streamlight strion and sometimes when it's quiet and I turn it on I hear a slight high pitch whining noise coming from it. It seems to eventually go away sometimes and it changes pitch as I switch through different levels of brightness.
I called streamlight and they said it is normal. They didn't give me an explanation why. Does anyone else experience this?

My guess is the noise you hear is coming from a PWM circuit. That would explain why it is different frequencies at different levels. Also once the circuit becomes warmer with use the resistance changes and makes the resonance at a frequency that is not audible.

Sounds like a legit answer. Guess I'm just not used to it as my old streamlight scorpion that ran on cr123 batteries didn't do it and neither does my little microstream

You must be under 40yrs eh?.....those annoying brake squeals usually heard in traffic go away after 60 as well!

I'm holding mine to my ear right now and it is silent on high, whining on medium and low buzz on low.

What kind of batteries are you using? I have lots of lights and some of them make that kind of noise depending on if I have rechargeables or alkaline cells in them.

I have two of them a blue one in my truck and wifes got a pink one. They both do this. Blue one is nore audible but its also older. Bought that one when they first came out. Its normal i believe like said above its the circuitry or the microchip doing it. If streamlight said its normal im sure it is. They are pretty good people over there. Streamlight is about 30minutes from me in eagleville pa.

I wear in-ear styled earphones/headsets to protect my hearing while working with power tools (die grinders, suspension work), but I don't think its working because I'm also blasting music loud enough to drown out all the hammering and whirling.

To the person who asked what battery is in it....not sure. I know it's rechargeable and I'm pretty sure it's a lithium ion
