I have bought two of these lights. The tail cap has a very light duty spring. When the spring compresses, it no longer makes a constant contact with the batteries. You'll get a flickering light or a light that goes out completely. The fix is to take the tail cap off and stretch the spring out. That lasts for about a day until the spring compresses again. Has anyone else had this experience ?

I’m convinced they either changed the design or cheapened the components.

I carried one of those for years. It was totally silver as all the finish had worn off. Finally lost it and ordered a replacement. The replacement lasted about exactly a month before it stopped working. Went through 2 or 3 more over the next 6 months or so. They all had the same issue you describe.

Switched to Coast. Been carrying the same light for about 3 years no issues. It pained me to replace a US made product with a Chinese one but in this case the import light is of higher quality.

You can buy replacement caps, including the upper spring, switch, the whole part the clip connects to. When I used that model I got ~1 year out of a light. I tried cap replacement but the lights usually ended up with other issues and the cap isn't super cheap compared to buying a light when they're on sale in an unpopular color.

Streamlight Stylus Pro is not a US made product, you swapped China for different China.

I agree. I carried and used one every day for years. The paint literally wore off it. I've had several. Never had the spring problem. Mine were all purchased more than 5 years ago.

I know a lot of people like them but I was never a big fan of Streamlight. I agree with giving them a call though, even if you had to pay for a couple tail caps that's better than having a light that doesn't work.

Definitely contact Streamlight for replacement caps.

Out of curiosity.. I looked on Amazon, and they sell the replacement caps.

I just bought a USB rechargeable Streamlight MicroStream, and the end cap button is quite difficult to switch on and off. I think the cap on the rechargeable is not replacable.

Make a shim from cardboard, plastic sheet protectors (several layers).

Use a three hole punch as the punch-outs are the perfect size to fit inside the rubber cap.

The few I got about a year or so ago have a VERY heavy spring. Like I can press down and it will light up, but release my finger and they turn off. I have to press HARD to get it to "click" and stay on. Not sure if it is a "feature" or not. I don't mind it, personally.

I had a bunch of super cheap Chinese lights that looked pretty much identical. Like $15 for a 10 pack or something.

The spring would wear out after a month or so. I took a piece of stranded 14ga wire and coiled it up into a disc, dropped it in the tube. It took up the slack and never had an issue until I would lose one and grab another out the pack.

Only issue was the wire falling out when I would go to change the batteries.

I've had a Milwaukee branded one for a few years now and I've not had that issue. However, the rubber at the top is almost completely gone. I think once the last little bit falls off it'll be a PITA to turn it on and off. I'll probably just buy another one unless I can find something MIUSA.

I just went through this with my Microstream. They had sent me a new cap a while ago and I believe they sent two. Fixed it for a little while. Now my light doesn't work at all. Contacted them again and this was there reply. Looks like I have to send it in now.

Quoted from streamlight below
Please perform the following test to see if it could possibly be your switch

1.Remove tail cap.
2. Touch the back of the batteries with a flat head screwdriver
3. While keeping contact with the batteries,
move the screwdriver horizontally until it makes contact with the barrel.
4. Keep contact for a few moments to ensure the light stays on.

If the light fails to light or shuts off the problem is with the LED in your light which is covered under warranty. Please send your light here to the factory for warranty repair/replacement using our online service request form http://eweb.streamlight.com/Streamlight_Service/default.aspx

If the LED lights and stays lit, the problem is most likely with your switch. In that case, please reply to this email with the color of your tail cap and your mailing address. We will mail a replacement tail cap as an accommodation.

I switched to the shorter, fatter model, forget the name.
Recently purchased, ProTac 1L-1AA awesome light.
The difference between the two. Micro is 3.5" and the 1L-1AA is 4.25"

I’ve got one of these as well. A few years old. If anything, mine has the opposite problem. It’s a very stiff spring and it’s hard to turn on with one hand. That aside, it’s very reliable and I like it.

Sounds like the same as mine.

I wonder if there was a problem with this and they changed the spring?

That looks great.

The words “ten tap programmable” cause a degree of fear though! I only really want two modes, and I want one of them to be “off “ - properly off that is, not subtly draining the battery. This is something most of the cheaper lights seem to suffer from, but the Stylus Pro doesn’t!

I bought that Coyote over 5 years ago when they first came out and has been used about daily since. It when through a full load of wash on two separate occasions by accident. I’ve never had a problem with it and I use the double click switch function all the time. Its been an awesome light.
