Strictly tool boxes & Canada address

I have been kicking tires on and off all winter on a better tool box for my work place....aircraft maintenance.
Have a real hard time choking down a Snap On price, but my NAPA top and bottom box are just frustrating me. You get what you pay for.
Having stated this and doing lots of comparing features and my wants I have a thought I like the 52" Gator box from Strictly tool boxes.
Question is though.....they dont ship to Canada. Are there any Cdns that have bought from them ? How do I do it ?
The sales person on the phone sort of had an idea but doesn't have any recommendations for cross boarder shipping.

Ship it to an address in a border town. Sure you have to drive (a long way) to pick it up, but that's probably the path of least resistance. Not sure if you have reason to travel to Winnipeg, but if you do, there's a place 1 hour away that I use all the time (small and very large items). Incredibly cheap rates, I think $5 a month per item. Crazy, I know. Drop me a PM if interested.

I bought the 72" Montezuma Elite. Had it shipped to a receiver in Montana with no problem. Basically met the driver at the arranged time and loaded it into my truck. All you need to do is find a place to ship it in the US.

I forgot to add....I am an 8 hour drive TO the border and another 2 hours TO a civilized place in the U.S. This is maybe going to be out of my price range again if I have to take 2long days to drive.
I plan in the buisness hours to phone some shipping companys and inquire, but I think I will be approaching Snap On prices.

Contact a customs broker to arrange to prepay the taxes and duty if any, then with the appropriate paperwork it can be shipped directly to your door

Noonan ND has a great place to ship to. I also make trips to North of PA near Waskesiu on occassion. I also know of a person working near Noonan from Mayview,Sask. I am pretty sure your access to planes, and proximity to lakes may aid in the transport of a toolbox. The lakers are fun outside Pickerel Bay when the ice comes off.

I don't understand this. Is Canadian customs that tough that these companies can't ship to Canada? If they can ship from Miami to Seattle why not 150 miles north of the border? I must be missing something.

A lot of companies are just lazy and ignorant,a few lines to complete on a form is just too much work for them...Sometimes though it involves vendor agreements intended to protect their Canadian dealers.

Can also be different laws regarding delivery which could lead to a scam. It is also pricey to get something brokered if the item is small etc. It may cost $50 for brokerage so on a toolbox it may be no big deal but on a smaller item the math doesn't work.

I bought a bumper from a re-chromer in the US who originally did not want to ship to Canada. I didn't understand why not since I would be incurring all costs,so I questioned him on it. He told me there was to much hassle with the paper work and wasn't sure if the issue was with him but the parts were always held up in customs which pissed off the customer so he gave up on the practice. I brought this up with the shipping and receiving dept at my work place. My guy was able to do all the paper work from our end which was faxed the the re-chrome company, then we contacted the appropriate shipping company to pick it up......no problem! All the re-chrome company had to do was prepare my bumper, wrap it and pass the paper work which we faxed him to the shipping driver and the rest was "easy-peasy! How much difference in price are they from the Snap On? I would guess from trying to get a piece of equipment shipped across the boarder last year that you are going to be looking at a minimum of $400 to get it there probably more.

Check country feeds in Kansas. There is one in Montezuma, ks. This is the town that headquarters Montezuma tool boxes. Maybe they would ship to Canada. Ryan is a super nice guy and very helpful. Mention garage journal when you call him.

UPS tried to get me for $50+ brokerage a few months after I got my $5 circa 1960s Sturmey-Archer hub from California... FedEx never gave me any problems. Watch your courier companies... and there are lots of was to "help" a company ship you things across the line.

Also, why is Amazon.com so much better than Amazon.ca? This was why I first discovered the border town shipping depot options.

You might check out what Costco.ca has....prices include shipping...to most places...and La Ronge is usually considered someplace else...VBG

All very good discusion. Not sure what their issue is with crossborder shipping. In the aviation world we do a lot of business south of the border. For larger items such as engines and props we have a broker in Winnipeg. "Smaller" stuff just arrives at our doors. Sometimes we do get a hassle and then the papers get confusing.
All this I fear is going to run the price of the box I want up to a point that makes it less attractive.
As a side note a comparable in features box from Snap on is hitting $3700. (KRA 2411)
Regarding the Costco box, a SPG International SRB 5412 is similar to the Gator box but I am the kind of guy that before I buy something I want to feel it, test it out, play with all the buttons like......I know I cant do that with the Strictly Tool box idea.
The International is Canadian built....hmmmm

Shaune with Costco you can return it if you don't like it. I've bought a lot online from Costco with only a glass door insert that UPS decided to use as a crash test dummy being a problem and even that was resolved quickly.

First let me apologize I am not certain who told you we do not ship to Canada. StrictlyToolBoxes.com has no issues shipping to Canada. Our end of it is easy. We simply fax a few forms to a customs broker. The issues with shipping to Canada by truck freight are the customs brokerage fee (typically $120USD), Duties (est. 6%), your local sales tax plus the additional shipping.

When an order is placed that ships truck freight we send all the paperwork to the customs broker. They total the brokerage fees etc and then collect those fees from the end user. After the brokerage, duties and sales taxes are paid we ship the box.

The big issue is freight damage. If the box is damaged refuse it and we ship a replacement. However the brokerage, taxes and duties need to be paid again. Then you file to get a refund of your duties and sales taxes with Canadian customs.

For all of those reasons the vast majority of Canadian big box orders ship to the border and the end user brings it across.

The portable boxes that can ship FED EX small package are much easier. We just add a few forms to the package and ship it. After the portable box delivers FED EX sends the end user an invoice for brokerage, duties and sales tax. The small package brokerage should be under $35.
