String wrapped steering wheel

First time, took an hour or so.

This is about 12" diameter, for our cycle kart.

The wheel was off a machine at work that was in the scrap pile.

That is pretty cool. It's sure going to get dirty fairly fast though. Did you give it a though about possibly using strands of leather? Or possibly some black string?

What sort of machine did you have at work that had a steering wheel on it?

I think the original string wrapped wheels back in the 20's/30's probably got varnished or oiled.

This will get varnished.

It got a little dirty while wrapping. Used some bleach cleaner to brighten it back up.
