Strip Lighting - Do I need to run Conduit?

I'm planing to install strip lighting into my pole building shortly. The ceiling is metal liner and the feed for the lights will drop through the ceiling into the first fixture. The remaining fixtures are spaced roughly 2 feet apart and will be fed from one to another. Does the exposed wire between fixtures need to be in conduit? I'm thinking of using conduit anyway for a cleaner look but nor sure how to do it (fittings, etc.) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When I put them up in my garage, I ran all the wire (NM-Romex) above the ceiling. I used a knock in the back/top of the fixture or drilled an appropriate sized hole. I added a threaded male adapter, lock nut and a short stub of PVC conduit to reach above the insulation.

If I have to make a change, I can easily see the location of the light from the attic and it's a clean appearance from below.

Unfortunately, 2 of the 4 runs of strip lighting are not accessible from the attic.
