I'm about to order a black-oxide coating kit from Caswell Plating to fancy-up some old tools, and some car parts that I think would look cool in corrosion-resistant black.
Problem is, it looks like the black oxide coating won't adhere to chrome. Stripping the majority of the chrome off an item shouldn't be hard, but I'm worried that I won't be able to get it off of knurled areas (handle of an old SK ratchet) and the insides of stamped letters (old Mac and Crafstman wrenches).
Any tips? Anyone know how a plating shop does it? I'd rather not have to pay someone to do it, as all I'm doing is trying to make my set of 'truck' tools look a little nicer.
Thanks,
adam
