I picked up a full set of screwdrivers today at the local swap meet. They are all yellow hard handles but terribly painted black. Anyone know what's safe to use on the handles to strip the paint?

I did find one thread on the same thing from 2008 but OP never followed up and I'm sure someone has done this in the past 6 years

Thanks
Matt

Try Simple Green. It works wonders softening/removing paint. If the plastic is dull try Mothers Aluminum polish or Mcguiers Plastic cleaner and polish afterwards.

If they are the textured hard handles i wouldn't think twice about using a mild cleaner with a scotchbrite pad, 3M Adhesive remover comes to mind, probably just cheap spray paint anyways, It is likely the method to remove the paint will remove lettering from the handles

:+1: Simple Green !

Let 'em soak overnight. Depending on what type of paint was used, it may wipe off with a paper towel.

I ended up soaking them in some solvent and had no luck. So I scraped as much as I could then sanded them down. They were very torn up with deep grooves and knicks that were just filled with paint. There had to be almost a 1/16th of paint. The Snap on logo is gone but I know what they are and I'm pumped. Now I need to buy some ratchets to put them on!

I have had luck with using Dawn Power dissolver also sold as Dawn grill cleaner on painted plastic. It takes time but it wont damage the plastic.
