The link is invalid because it includes the " ... " - you need to pull up the link in the other thread, click it, then copy the URL from the browser directly. In other words - long URLs posted in a thread get shrunk down to a smaller size by vBulletin so copying the shortened URL from a different thread/post does not include the full URL and instead is an invalid link. :)

It's Reliable Tools in Irwindale. This link might work even better.

My Strong Hold cabinets came from them. I rented a Home Depot truck to get them home.

When they get a large number of them, like this, the prices can get really good once the 'current Strong Hold buying population' gets its full. I got one of my 4' wide cabinets for $62 that way. But it doesn't happen very often.

Nice! I got two of those 28-bin storage organizers for free from a buddy and didn't know where I could get more - now i do! Thanks for sharing the link!

Seems like these guys have amazing inventory. But you gotta be local. I just bought a bench grinder but it will cost more to ship to NJ than I paid :-( big mistake

They are going for too much imo now. That said, I've picked up a few things from this batch. Got a nice JET drill press and vert belt/12"disc sander for less than 1/2 price new.
mf03zzj.jpg

Last night I just got a nice air reelcraft hose reel for a 1/4th of new. I got about 20 nice files for about 9 bucks too. People are paying big money for those IR grinders...what is so special about them? All this stuff has come from a closed Toyota plant in central CA.

They had some nice lower cabinets that went for about 500 a pop. I thought too much, till I went to pick some things up and saw them...nicer than Lista!

BTW anyone looking at the Dake press, it is HUGE. Very nice though ;-)

Wish no one posted this here. Stop bidding up the prices...just snip at the end. You'll win some and so will others, and it will keep the prices down! LOL...mine...all mine ;-)

They buy up inventory from closed businesses. The problem is that SoCal is an affluent area with a lot of guys who refuse to give up their childhood hobbies, so there are some deep pockets bidding, sometimes without any good sense at all. I've seen a lot of used stuff sell for more than it cost new in their auctions.

As I mentioned before, the bargains (sometimes) come when you wait for the end of a big wave of similar items. The 4' Strong Hold cabinets will sell in the $200 range at that point, sometimes much less.

But all it takes is a pair of bidders who start to look at this as a contest, and the prices just get stupid (IMO).

ersatzs2, if there's anything I can do to help with the grinder, let me know. I'm going to be out there next week picking up a few things.

Yea, they've been around for a while. Prices are way too high on anything I've seen (usually Lista stuff).

All of my Strong Hold units came from them.

The lowest price I got was $62 for one of my 4'-wide ones. :)

I also got my Vidmar cabinets from them -- AFTER they'd sold dozens of them in the days ahead of mine. I didn't get as good a deal as the $62 Strong Hold, but still.

HaH! Yeah, well I didn't post until _after_ I'd won the stuff I wanted! I was watching those reelcraft hoses; but didn't really need one now. I also got a ton of files, lots of clamps, drill bits and some other stuff. Nice Jet combination sander, but there was one from Baldor that was great too.

Thanks for the offer, the damage is done however and I've arranged with them to have the stuff crated and shipped. It's not a total disaster because I bought so much small stuff, but I do wish I'd asked for a shipping quote _before_ the auction ended!

The reality is even for the small stuff, their shipping prices are quite high. I think they really prefer local pickup

Actually, I think they prefer padding their profits a little with shipping charges. They recently restricted pickup to only afternoons -- it used to be any time during business hours.

Yes, that 20" 3phase disc sanding unit is built like a brick S house. You will be happy with the files, they are top quality.

I asked about 3 phase v 1 phase here on GJ last week because of all that heavy duty 3 phase stuff they had. My shop build won't happen till next spring, so I was really hesitant to load up on stuff now. I figured the single phase press and sander were good deals. After looking at them in person, I'm sure of it. I'm sort of starting from scratch so much of the stuff I'll need eventually. Really wanted the other reel craft, but went over my price. They are $450 new. I think I got one for about $80. The combo is $1600 new and I spent less than 1/2. Want some of the cabinets, but they are going for just too much, like Jack said.

I've gotta quit looking at the site. they keep listing more great stuff all the time. Amazing Dake press with stand, there was a terrific benchtop drillpress, etc etc.

All the businesses like this in NJ closed decades ago, so we don't get these salvage sales.

Anyone ever have any luck getting a shipping quote from these guys BEFORE the auction ended?

You could get a good ballpark figure from www.Freight88.com. Reliable Tools will list the dimensions, and the Strong Hold web pages will have the weight (a 48" one is 700-800 pounds; a 36" one is 460 pounds).

More keep going up for auction on their list. I haven't seen any great bargains, yet. But I bid on a 36" wide one and got it for $142, which isn't terrible. (I suspect I'll regret that decision in the next week as fewer buyers are left and the real bargains show up.)

Speaking of bargains, this just went for $154.

30"x30"x1" and a vise and a clamp. It's not the deal of the century, but that'd be a handy small welding table.

Yea that's what i wanted a quote on. :(. All I really wanted was the table.
I don't trust not getting a quote before things end. I've seen big differences in freight quotes before. I'd be at their mercy. They probably don't want to be bothered...

Jack alluded to that earlier, I think you're right. They were very happy to quote AFTER the auction was over, which is why I'm paying ~$400 to ship $350 worth of purchases. So not a chipper outcome, and I'm guessing the table you liked (yeah I saw that too!) was un-economical given the 3000 mile freight.

I took a shot at those cabinets last night but as so often happens the price doubled or tripled in the last few seconds. I made a reference list from closed auctions and right now it looks like the 36" cabinets are generally going for $330-390, 48" $420-450, 60" and 72" $510-710. Even though I can make a trip to pick them up those prices seem really high. They had two 36"x36" like Jack has under his 1" thick steel table which I thought I could pick up for $500. Ending price was $332 each. Lots of guys wanting these cabinets have a lot deeper pockets than mine.

Yeah, you've got to wait -- and be willing to lose 99 in order to win 1. I don't see any other 36" ones having gone for less than $200, which is more than I'd be willing to pay. I'm not sure why the one I got for $142 didn't attract more interest.

Still a lot of them coming. Maybe the buyers will thin out.

I just shipped my old race car engine 1300 miles from Los Angeles to Spokane. The undiscounted rate was $485. Using the freight broker, I paid $185. I don't know for certain, but I suspect Reliable probably doesn't aggressively look to cut what they charge for freight. If I had to have them ship something, I'd send my own carrier to pick it up.

I picked up my cabinet today. Moved it very carefully over and into my little truck. It's 501 pounds with all of its shelves in it.

lastcabinet.jpg

Mine is the kind with two sets of shelves and room for hanging stuff.

033_wc.jpg

Their warehouse had hundreds of Strong Hold cabinets in it, waiting to be shipped out. They're still getting too much money for them, in my opinion. I think mine was the cheapest one that's sold so far. But I love those cabinets.

I saw the welding table with the vise on it, too. Looked good.

I took another run at the batch ending today but I agree, the prices are crazy. These seem like great cabinets but for over $120 a linear foot for used cabinets you've got to really want them. I have noticed that those 3' vertically divided one's are are little cheaper.

Ha! It's the straight six, untouched since 1983, and it's tired. I'd never make it over the Rockies. :)

I got a shipping quote from them recently. From Irwindale, CA to Victoria, BC.

1 36"x25"x78" cabinet - $700 + $75 packing fee
4 36"x25"x78" cabinet - $1500 + $250 packing fee

That excludes the cost of the cabinet, in case you are wondering... add anywhere from $100-$400 for each one.

Needless to say, that about killed my (brief) dream of buying a bunch of 12ga cabinets.

I did manage to get a quote from the link Jack posted. To jersey it was about 250 for the smaller cabinet and just over 300 for the larger. I saw the fees for packing from the seller and it becomes rather steep.

Geez. What do these things cost new? It's gotta be cheaper with those shipping prices.

They run from about $1,300 to over $8,000 from discounters like DrillSpot. I've never seen free shipping.

It's a no-compromise cabinet -- closes like a bank safe. I think the aerospace boom brought a lot of them to Los Angeles. It's a shame to see that industry in such trouble, but there have been some bargains out of the wreckage for individuals and smaller businesses.

my take on it would be to find a local source to rent a stake truck with a lift gate, look at ebay for cabinets within 50-75 miles, and go get them yourself.

I wish we had something like that on the east coast. Being in TN, I can't seem to find any of this stuff. Too many guys like me looking for them. :D

Over in Delaware we have the Dupont surplus sale. You can stop in a hundred times and only find something good once or twice. They did have a dozen vidmar cabinets come in during the summer filled with stainless steel hardware and fittings but the items were redeployed and not sold to the public. They even had the nerve to place them on the sale floor with a rope around them so all the guys could drool over them.
