Now, that i have light, im looking for a work bench. Something that i can mount a vise to and beat on things, bend , pry etc.... Is there something i can buy til i get a custom one built or is building always going to be cheaper. I dont need nothing to fancy, just a strong top, with some storage underneath. My old one only had 2 shelves underneath it running the distance of the bench and that was fine.... Any ideas, plans? Thanks guys!

Check out the Seville Classics bench from Sam's Club or online: https://www.sevilleclassics.com/products.php?cid=53,59

Sure you could build a stronger bench, but I doubt you'll find anything stronger for less money. If you search for "Seville" on the forum you can read what others who own the bench have to say... the general consensus is very, very positive.

Often times the state, government or military has auctions for some pretty stout steel tables. Search the GSA.

Here's the most time-tested design. (This is a picture from the Petersen Auto Museum.)

A couple of sheets of 3/4" plywood on top will stand up to just about anything.

You can also get a basic steel bench with a wood top for under a hundred bucks.

Here's one.

Check Craig's List... they come up pretty often. There's a welding bench on my local CL right now... 3X8 with a 3/16" steel top for $125.00... wish I had more room.
