Since so many of you have a vast knowledge base on a wide area of topics I thought I would throw this one out there.
I am in the process of building a new home. I have wired every bedroom and the entertainment area with RG-6 and CAT 6 wiring. I have also put ceiling speakers in the dining room, master bath and master bedroom. The last home I built was almost 10 years ago. Technology has changed a bit. I used ON-Q products last time for the telephone, cable and internet. I was looking to do the same.
The question. Does anyone have any better product ideas for this application? ON-Q served me well last time, and I thought I'd use them again.
The telephone module is the basic 1x8 with RJ-45 connection or the more basic 1x6 with the strips for punchdown. I think it's called 110 punchdown.
The video is a 1x8 passive video with an external amp for any additional video. No we don't actually have 12 tv's, but the RG-6 is in every room and I thought it would be more professional to simply hook up all wired from the very beginning.
The internet is set up by either a ON-Q information module or maybe a 8 port gigabit switch. The 8 port gigabit switch is new to me so I have to figure if it's correct for my application. The last house I simply put everything into the information module via punchdown and then ran the hard lines via RJ-45 to the wired router. That process worked fine and thought I would repeat unless there is an easier way. I know the wireless is the easiest and I do have wireless, it's just I also have dedicated wired in certain rooms.
So to be so long winded, but looking for as much information as possible. Thanks everyone!
David
