That is what I used in the end. I gunned it down with the impact, but I couldn't tell for sure if it was actually tight or the strut was spinning as it got a little bit snug.

As i mentioned before, spark plug sockets and long hex socket drivers work great for this purpose. In many other cases an impact works fine, but not always on rusty threads. :)

dwvcfii, if you aren't already doing this, you should have your webserver look at the Referrer header and serve or not serve the image accordingly.

That's the funny part about it. My website already protects against hotlinking, so all people see is my "Access Denied" picture. Most people see the warning picture and get the idea, but some do not.

p.s. welcome to garage journal :).

Thanks for the welcome, incidentally, but I've been reading the journal regularly for a couple years now. I just tend to focus my writing on BMW sites where I provide free tech support for certain vehicles. And I say that to point out to everyone here that I'm not some evil name-calling d!ckhead who just registered to break the OP's balls. I do my share to contribute to the community, but I don't appreciate people abusing the resources I provide.

Most people who hotlink don't realize they're doing something wrong, and in those cases (like this one) I take the time to educate the person and politely request they take the 10 seconds required to correct their post to remove the offending link. Most people respond in kind and correct the problem. Other people, however, cop an attitude and say, more or less "fu". The link is still there, so it appears the OP has decided to take the latter approach, so I'll have to contact the admins to correct it.

Sorry to all for interrupting the thread.

Seriously dude if you think OP's post was offensive you are one sensitive person. The intent of OP is clear..to help and educate, something you claim to do on other forums.

Most sane individuals realize that once you post pictures on the internet they can show up anywhere. If you're that uptight about it I suggest you don't post any of your pictures anywhere on the internet.

Sorry I didn't even see your continuing rants about a damn picture. Making it seem like I broke into your house, shot your dog, drank all your beer and then stole all your tools... :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

My computer just says this when you post:

What a horrible person you are, you picture thief! I'm surprised you didn't have the cops at your door. :lol_hitti

I learned some things about hot linking in this thread but man I've never seen anyone cry over a picture before. I've hot linked a bunch of pictures in this forum in the last couple years and never had anyone come after me crying or making threats! I guess I'll start saving the pics to my computer and then attaching them to the post so I don't have to worry about an angry mob showing up at my front porch over a picture.
