Thanks for stopping by. Im at work right now. I wont be able to finish the other 5% until February.
Carpet is nice for warmth but seeing it after being used for years has really changed me. Not that I am a complete clean freak but this is a game changer.

Very nice setup! I'm curious as to what you made your cabinet doors out of on that custom shelving unit? They look like those nice metal custom toolbox ones.

Thank you. The doors are made from 1/2" HDPE. I thought about making them out of 22 gauge steel but he cost to get them formed and then painted would have been alot more. A sheet of 36"x36"x1/2" black HDPE from Amazon prime is approx $80. Easy stuff to work with. Cuts nice and machine screws hold tight with out pre tapping the holes.
I do have to give credit to "lilscorpion" on this site for the insight on HDPE.

Hello AK
I heard you guys were rockin and rollin this morning
Just checkin in to be sure my buddy is ok
any damage out your way?

Don, thanks for checking in. Only two items broken at my place. A decorative slate wall piece that fell and my sons Star Wars Lego star destroyer. I will be helping him try and put it back together.
I was up north when it happened but the videos are impressive.

Pressure Washer Hose Reel relocation

I needed to relocate the Pressure washer hose reel to the make room for the Roll Out Cabinet in the corner. I mounted it on the center removable post for my two over head doors. It has a 3' high pressure coming from the stainless tubing to allow for removal of the post if I need to have the full 25' opening. the Aluminum frame is 4" inside width so I took a 4" square tube and fabed up a bracket with some, yes, Unistrut for ease of installation.

I also extended the line down a bit more and added a pressure gauge for a local read out, since the pressure washer is on the other side of the shop (40' away), along with a quick connect if the need to have two pressure washers running at once ever comes around.

Awesome garage!
Where did you get the retractable pressure washer reel?

Thank you. The pressure washer reel is a standard air reel the I took apart and replaced the lines with some 1/2" stainless tubing raised for 6000# and a high pressure quick connect for the swivel. Then just connected a 1/4" x 50' pressure washer hose.
It's a fairly easy swap with some inexpensive parts. Total cost for the reel, hose and fittings was about $100.

Thanks for stopping by. Keeping busy with the wife's furniture business and giving her the kitchen remodel she wanted.
I need to stop by and see what new activities you have going on and done.

Hello. I browse the site now and then but have been quiet on my responses.
Hope California is treating you good.
I just had a fire in the corner of the shop and lost a cabinet and my air compressor as well as about 80% of the contents due to smoke and some water damage from the dept.
Its in the document and cleaning of the contents stage now.
All the sheet rock (walls and ceiling) and insulation will be replaced as well as the doors, electrical wiring, and plumbing.
A rogue spark from grinding or welding started the fire in a closed cabinet. I was in there for 20 minutes after grinding and welding and never smelled or heard anything going on.

Aw man, that is heartbreaking AK. So sorry to hear of the destruction to your place. I wish you the best with the recovery. Its time to think about all the things you wanted to do differently and make it even better than before.

This is a coincidence because I was just researching welders today since I'm planning to get back into it. Maybe I need to rethink that.

Yell if you need anything.

Thanks for the words. It ***** but can be rebuilt. No person or animal was injured. Its a stand alone shop.
I do plan on relocating my welding area and will look into a suppression system with either water or even better some sort of Halon type product.
I will have thermal detectors in there. The ceiling got in the 400+ f range. All the LED light diffusers looked like taffy and a plastic tote that was on the lift was melted a third of the way down.

Thank you. Hope it was in the summer time when you rode. The parks hwy can get busy during commuting times. And I mean busy for Alaska.

My heart sunk when I read your response. When I saw your tool box it hit home hard. I'm so sorry for your loss and the challenges ahead. Like shopnut said it is an opportunity to rethink and make better.

California is not being good to anyone here right now. Hope it improves soon.

It is good to hear from you. Take care

I'm sorry to see that. Best wishes on recovering and rebuilding. I hate to see things like this and it's one of my biggest fears. One of the biggest reason why I won't weld, grind or make sparks of any kind within an hour or so of closing up shop. Even then it's probably a gamble but I try to plan my welding when I first walk in vs. end of my shift in the shop.

Thank you. Even if you can rebuild or replace there are some items that have sentimental value as well as items that are hard if not able to find anymore. Took me a while to find the cabinet again.
Good luck down there.

Thank you. I make it a point to look things over after working with sparks or fire and do the 1/2 hour standby range after those projects, but I never would have guessed it got into a closed cabinet.

Sorry to see the destruction and I hope the vehicles can be saved. I do most of my grinding in the shed 100 feet from the house but all my welding happens in the garage. Maybe I should put in some welding curtains. I expect I'll have nightmares for the next few weeks. Boy is someone going to be mad when I throw a bucket of water on us in my sleep.

Thank you. Would have been a totally different situation if I saw the build up of the fire. There was a fire extinguisher right by my welding table for that reason. Lots of shoulda, coulda, woulda's running through my head.

Got everything unbolted and out except for two items. They will work around them. They are now ripping the sheetrock and insulation. Then they will move on to plumbing and electrical. Reconfiguring the layout in my head already.
