Just wondering what everyone on here uses for a stubby 3/8 impact? Been looking at the aircat 1076-xl and the onyx.. Both have impressive numbers for their size.

Eric O. of South Main Auto on YouTube has used the Onyx for over a year now and he hasn't been able to destroy it yet. That's as high of praise as can he given to any tool as that man could break an anvil.

Go for the Astro. It's the smallest 3/8 impact on the market, and almost 500 ft-lbs is plenty of torque for the majority of jobs on a car. Size, however, is the most important factor in a 3/8 impact, and the Astro is the one that wins there.

What PSI and CFM for that almost 500?

I have a 3/8" Craftsman (air) and it has less power than my 3/8" m18 Milwaukee (battery).

I run mine at 130psi cuz it's a twin hammer and can take it. I removed a 250ft/lb book rating rusted upper control arm mounting bolt with it.

Another vote for the Astro. I've had one ~9 months, used professionally near daily. Tough, plenty of power and gets in nearly anywhere.

90 PSI working pressure. The nano is rated at 450, but it's underrated a bit according to what the Astro rep here claims and tests have verified that.

Who knows?
I can't speak for the 3/8" Aircat, but I do have their 1/2" stubby impact and it's pretty awesome.

That being said, I also absolutely LOVE my Astro Nano 3/8".

I'd buy both (and I did!).

I love my Astro 3/8 Drive Nano impact wrench as well. That thing is sweet for getting in tight spots and has some serious power for its size.

I have the CP 3/8 and !/2 stubby's and like them but because of service of Astro I would buy them as they really stand behind their products with the Rep on here all the time

turn your compressor up all the way. make sure your using a min of 3/8s hose with high flow fitting. once that's all done check the psi at the end of the hose with a gauge. as long as the system can keep up you should be fine, if it cant then you might need to wait for it to build up again each time depending how long you keep the trigger down. i run all my air tools at 160psi at the hose and never had one fail on me.

does anyone have both the 3/8 and 1/2 nano? does the 1/2 feel any diff? never really understood the reason behind the 1/2 if its meant to fit in tight places and the same size sockets on a 1/2dr is much bigger overall compared to a 3/8dr sockets.

Thanks for the info.

I also have a PowerTank CO2 system. I have run my Matco 1/2" gun off it at 150psi for a few short bursts to do front end work on a (rust belt) Chevy C3500 and to change tires on farm equipment in my uncles fields.

I bought the Matco gun 20 years ago when I was a heavy diesel tech. It hardly fits anywhere on cars working with no lift. The Craftsman 3/8" was given to me when it was almost new. I used it a few times but when my dad retired he brought home a (new) 3/8" M18 and gave it to me so I didn't bother with the air guns much.

I can't compare the 3/8 NANO as I only have the 1/2 ONYX, but if it is anything like the 1/2, it's an awesome tool for sure!
