I’m wanting to add a set of stubby wrenches to the arsenal and I wanted the groups collective thoughts on them. Naturally I prefer USA made, but I’m open minded as long as it’s not ChiCom. In years past I would’ve just gotten a Craftsman set and been done with it, but that’s not an option currently. And used craftsman stubbies are selling at asinine prices now. Thanks for your thoughts.

I was gifted a sweet set of fractional Craftsman Professionals (Thank you again) and I have Tekton metrics. When I asked opinions I was reminded that they likely won't see much high torque application.

EDIT: I double checked my statement and the Craftsman aren't "Professional". Just polished with a raised panel. "W" series.

Cripe distributing on ebay had quite a few U.S. Made NOS KD full polished stubby wrenches for $3-4 a wrench. They're some very nice wrenches if they have any left.

If the wrenches being made in Taiwan doesn't upset you, then Tekton and Williams have some nice stubbies.

Gearwrench has some nice stubby wrench sets but, I'm not sure where they're made currently.

facom are nice.
main thing with stubbies is good ergonomics and slender ring and open end design so fit in tight scenarios and not slip out of your grip too easily .

I paid less than $25 a set for the Sunex stubby combos. They were one of the larger sets I could find. Certainly not made in the USA though.

Ratcheting stubby wrenches are the way to go though. I was just being cheap.

I have SK stubbies in my box and Tekton in my truck. The SK wrenches are insanely stout, but perhaps unnecessarily so. Like others have said, these likely won't see high torque applications so why waste so much steel? I guess if you were going to put the box end of one wrench on the open end of the other to get some leverage (or use a cheater), you might produce enough torque to justify the extra meat but otherwise, I just don't see it.

Anyway, the SKs are nice but for the money, Tekton are great.

I have SK and CM USA in none ratchet. Had the SK for 25+ years. If I had to buy today I would buy Tekton. I have GearWrench ratcheting and they work fine.

I like my SK stubbies. One nice thing with SK is the standards go up to 1" and metric up to 24mm. Those larger sizes come in hamdy. I'm not aware of anyone eles who makes that big of metric stubbies. A few companies make up to 1".

Here are a few pics of a SK made CM. Hard to see but it has a small K on the back. Which I believe designates is being made by SK.

I have the tekton non-reversible ratcheting stubbies. Haven't had them long and only used them a few times but no complaints.

The tekton ratcheting wrenches are 6 point on the ratcheting end. So they won't work on 12 point or inverted torx (E socket) bolts
