Got a 28 piece set of Gearwrenches just now, 7 SAE flexheads, 7 Metric flexheads, 7 SAE stubbies, and 7 Metric stubbies. I couldn't imagine a use for them, thinking of swapping them out for regular length ones. Paid $80 tax in, good deal?

I have a set of non-gear stubby wrenches. I thought I had to have them about 10 yrs ago.. I think I forced myself to use on once, other than that I have never found a use for them... $.02

The are more of a specialty item, but they have their place. Unless you need the money or room, I'd keep them. Never know when you might really need them.

Lol. I actually bought two sets but the yahoos there gave me the wrong set but the SKU was the right one an so was the price. Yeah, room is an issue I only have a top chest.

I've got two eight piece stubby ratcheting sets, one metric and one sae. They see a fair amount of use and I'm definitely pleased I purchased them. I figure for stubbies, ratcheting is the way to go.

Actually, I think I'll keep them. Will have a set of standard combo's as well, can't see myself needing both a flex and non flexhead of the same gearwrench.

Oh, forgot to point out.....these 7pc sets of flexheads usually go on sale for 34.99 - 39.99.......so the 28pc deal you got basically gave you the stubby's for free....

If i had the money i'd be grabbin these this week just for the flexheads...then unloading the stubbies for some $$$.

they're sold here in canada at canadian tire. They're the house brand Mastercraft Maximum but made by gearwrench(gearwrench is stamped on opposite side). Here's a link...pic doesn't seem to be working, but you can see them in the weekly flyer on the main page.

I buy alot of mastercraft tools as the no questions warranty is great....walk in with old and out with replacement.

When i was in high school a few years ago, my dad bought me both standard and stubbies, i use the 5/16 stubby for batteries. Other than that i dont really use them.

Weird. I must be in the minority. I absolutely love my ratcheting stubby set.

I usually break the bolt loose with a longer wrench and then use the stubby to thread it out/in. I found it much easier to to control than a full size ratcheting wrench and much faster. They were especially great for small bolts between the engine/firewall.

I just realized I got the stubby Gearwrenches as a bonus, they were supposed to be standard combo wrenches. Not a bad deal considering they didn't have the pack in stock on the first day of the sale and I had to wait an hour for them to realize it wasn't in stock.

Thanks for the advice guys, keeping the sets!

I've used mine once. It was when doing brake work on my 1968 Mustang. I needed a short 1/2 wrench. Other than that, they have collected dust. That being said, my mechanic said he uses his stubby flex combination ones frequently on newer cars.

how much were those stubby wrenches. I want to buy a set of stubby wrenches. I was going to buy a set of Williams or blackhawk stubby ratchet wrenches but i cant justify the cost for a made in Taiwan wrench. I might buy some Sk non ratcheting wrenches.

I use mine all the time, handy for those tight areas where you would undo it with your fingers but theres tension or **** on the threads making it too tight on the fingers

I use my 8 and 10mm stubby gearwrenches quite a bit really. They come in handy in tight spots....adjusting linkages without disassembly, etc.

Absolutely. As mentioned above, they are flat-out priceless when you need even just one. I found them invaluable removing the transfer case on a '94 Jeep YJ, especially for the upper bolt near the exhaust.

LOL. You think the price for the impact sockets are good, I seem to remember last year one of the bigger sets (49 pieces?) was something like $50.

The sale price for them is $39.99 a set. I actually paid maybe $15 a set?

Yup, that's about what i paid for my set.....but i bought mine when the socket sizes are stamped....not like the new ones now that are screened on. Found a set at a local pawn shop and all the sockets were the same.......blank from use...lol

Yeah, not a fan of the paint on numbers, guaranteed to rub off from use. They're not bad and have quite a heft to them, I remembered pitying the guys stocking up the shelves who had to stack boxes of the socket sets LOL.

I have a set of Gearwrench metric and sae ratcheting stubby wrenches, use them quite often. I finally broke down and bought a set of ratcheting metric flex-head gearwrenches.
A 15mm flex-head ratcheting wrench to remove the front engine mount on a FWD V8 Impala easier.

I have the regular stubbies in SAE and Metric
Then about 9 years ago I got a ratchet set in both. I have the 11 piece set in metric and the 8 pices in SAE form Gearwrench.
I put the regular ones in wrench racks and the gearwrench sets came in blow mold and a rack. I have yet to use them. They were very cheap back then. One of these days my sons will discover the drawer and will take them out. LOL

Ok, finally got a chance to get into my local CT today.....you lucked out i think. Flyer shows normal stubbies, NOT gearwrenches. I picked up a pkg...yup,normal stubbies. Couldn't find any with the gearwrench stubbies. Care to post the item number from your receipt? :D

I was taking of 4 charge air coolers off a big Mitsi., and I needed a 12mm stubby to remove the many bolts in the tight spots where the coolers mount to the air box. It was to tight for my 1/4 rat and socket. So before reassembly I called up SO rep for price on a SO 12mm stubby ratcheting wrench. Price was $40. I couldn't do it. Went to CT and bought the 7 piece metric gearwrench ratcheting stubby set for $40. The 12mm came in really handy for re assembly, I was happy. I do not use this set every day, but for the price it is nice to have around.
