I have "one" short/stubby box end wrench - 9/16 and 5/8 combo. I really like the length and deep offset. It's a pleasure to use. It has no brand on it.

I'd like to find a whole set of these but the only ones I've found were snap and I "think" MAC...more than I can swing for a set.

Does anyone know brands names that I could search to find these? Vintage or used would be fine....

Thanks..

+1 on SK, or sometimes Sears has the 20 piece set on sale for a good price. No 11mm though, and it doesn't come with the 9mm, 21mm, 22mm or 1" wrenches.

$90 right now, but it might not be too bad if you can use a good coupon. I have that complete set augmented with the missing sizes although a 1-1/16" might be nice as well for oil pressure switches.

I have been thinking about the same thing, but I am going to go a different route. Stubby wrenches don't need to be as high quality as regular wrenches, because they will not see much torque when used. I also prefer to minimize the overall shape of my wrenches so they work better in tight areas, so having two offset box ends on opposite ends of the same wrench is not appealing to me at all. I will most likely be buying a Craftsman deep offset wrench set in SAE and metric for a total cost of around $60-65. Then I will simply cut all the wrenches in half so they all become short length, deep offset, and they each have a nice slim and straight handle after the offset.

ive got a couple sk and mac and they fit my hand great. good for holding on a bolt head when you run a nut on the other side. a stubby will work in most cases, but the offset makes it easier in some situations.

the idea of cutting them works too. ive cut some old combo wrenches i didnt care for. got a few old williams that look like service wrenches, but may have been a combination wrench at one time. pretty old and chrome gone. nice and smooth from heavy use, so hard to tell if factory or homeade.

I have a set of Craftsman WWII vintage raised panel stubby offset box wrenches. No chrome, they were black oxide finished originally.

If you are looking for a single offset box/open end combination, there is a DIN spec for such and practically all of the Euro tool makers have them.

For metric, Nepros has a small selection of short 45°×6° type wrenches:

Shaped to engage recessed fasteners, with super shallow bevels for greater contact surface on fastener, and with a thick, comfortable beam profile. ...with a surface finish that's like no other.

I have a set of the satin-finish Bonneys. And the old school Indestro Selects ain't bad, either.

Neither available in metric, though.:(

Thanks for all the info. I think those posted from Harry Epstein should be fine. Also though...the more I talk to myself the more I'm liking the larger set of SK even though expensive. I'll give it a think.

Another option is mix and match from garage sales! ;)

Just to drive the OCD types nuts - here is most of mine:

The one with Blue paint was my dad's originally; an old Fairmont.

The one in the middle is different: flat on one end, offset on the other...

I ended up winning a bid on a 3 PC Snap-On set for $30 shipped. They were rather old but looked fine to me in the pic. We'll see.
