What's everyone's thoughts on the idea of stubby impact universals?
On one hand brings the (assumingly in some way interfering) head of the impact closer to stuff around the bolt head, on the other hand people seem to like Snap On 207RIPFM (pictured center)

Just a prototype, don't get too excited
Diameter is similar, but pinless not currently an option for something with Nano drive outside hex

The only stubby universal that I use is a stubby 5/8 12 point for starters. Often I'm wishing I had deeper than I do shallower when it comes to universals. They probably have a use somewhere, but not for me, especially with the huge collar on it.

Yeah I would have no interest in a set. I don't think I would ever actually need or use them either.

But if Astro could make a cheaper alternative to one of these, I would definitely buy one.

I don't think the hex drive end provides any benefits. If that can be removed and the overall size can be minimized, then it would be the smallest and that might be beneficial to someone.

The what now?

tom-selleck-magnum-pi.gif

I don't know why I can't find a picture I had of it, but this is what I'm talking about...

The picture on the CAT tools site just shows an extension and the catalog picture ***** too...

Apparently this was the OEM tool made by Apex...

Edit;
MAC also makes a similar 3/8" drive version

Interesting concept but, the photo doesn't sell me. :dunno: I think I like the compactness of my matco 1/4 drive pinless impact sockets more. The examples shown just look too bulky to me. Take a ko-ken zeal 1/4 drive swivel socket and mate it a short hex impact extension for use with a cordless impact driver.
