I'm looking for a set of sae and metric stubby wrenches. I've made it 20 years without them and havent felt I needed them until the last couple of pieces of equipment I've purchased.

I don't see myself using them alot hence looking at cheap options. Odly Icon and tekton are about as cheap as anything for a complete set.

I like the looks of the Icon sets but the Tekton set includes 6,7,8,9 over the Icon (sae only adds 9/32). For sae and metric With a Ernst modular wrench holder is $80 to $90 depending where you buy it. Icon would be more by the time you get wrench holders.

Tekton doesn't list lengths, but they look longer than most stubbys are, at least the smaller sizes. Has anyone noticed this in use, does it matter? Is it worth getting the shorter Icons vs more sizes with the Tekton?

I think the Snap-on version are much nicer and easily worth the money. I'd get them off eBay if I didn't already have them.

Just my opinion though. Feel free to 86 that opinion into the trash if you feel the need to.

If you’re only going to use them occasionally, and are a DIYer, check out Workpro. Their thin line compact metric set is excellent, and they offer stubbies as well. Prices are great

Get the tekton sets. Good tools for reasonable prices. Plus they have one of the best support crews out there.
Take a picture of tool, email it. Two days later in the mail is the replacement.

I occasionally use stubby wrenches and purchased the Tekton stubby wrenches in SAE and Metric versions and could not be happier. Tekton seems to provide consumers better experiences than most manufacturers; consequently, more Tekton tools occupy space the shop than Icon tools. Tekton offers decent tools with fabulous warranties at decent prices. Good luck with your decision.

this is a real problem because if your needing a stubby wrench then your going to have a time trying to get that fastener to turn because you go limited leverage on that wrench

and your going to want the best quality tightest fit wrench with lowest profile head you can get which means $$$

on the other hand you aren’t going to be using these too often so most people get cheap stuff and then when you finally go to use it you got a tool that might not so the job

i look at these like flare nut crowfeet. do you want to spend $30 for one single crow foot flare nut wrench you might use once in your life? No of course not nobody does but that one time you go to use it do you want to have something cheap that won’t work too well?

so what I been doing it looking for deals on snap on, managed to get a full set of 3/8 crow foot and flare nut for under half of retail which honestly is still expensive and I doubt Ill ever going to use most of them, but If I need them I need the good stuff.

if money was limited which it is for me so I’m going slow on what I buy but if you needed something now I’d rather have just a few good snap on stubbies than a full set of Taiwan ones. Figure that on the low end like 10 11 12 13 they are going to be not much smaller than regular wrenches but on the upper end like 17 18 19 they might be like 1/4 the length

and depending on what stuff you work on so for me id rather have three lightly used snap on stubbies in 14 17 19 than a full set of Tawain for the same price

look for used because even used I mean how used will they be?

Tekton lists their stubby wrench lengths in the spec section under each set. There is a drop down menu that allows you to see the length of each wrench. For example, the metric set 6mm is 3.3 inches long and the 19mm tops out at 5.4 inches long.
I feel that the Tekton stubbies are nicely finished, and feature off corner engagement on the boxed end. I don't think there's any reason to go hawg wild, off the tool truck deep end for stubby wrenches but that's just me. The best bang for your buck stubby wrenches used to be the US made KD full polished versions cripe distributing closed out on ebay. They are very nice wrenches. I recommend Tekton for their quality, price, customer service, and reward points that spend like cash on future orders from Tekton.com plus the availability of open stock should you misplace a wrench or want an extra one.

For the price Tekton stubbies will work have not had any issues with them. I have the old ones from a few years ago and not the new ones. They may still have them in the clearance section on the website. I have a few Snap On ones as well and the only reason why I have those is I needed them right then. If you want me to take a few pictures next time, I’m at work I can. I think the Tekton have an offset and the ones that I have from Snap On do not. I may have that the other way around though I can’t remember.
