I love this battery operated drill. It's an 18 volt and it has a keyless chuck. Problem is that the Chuck is Stuck.

Any ideas here as to how to release the chuck?????? :headscrat
Thanks in advance.

Use channel locks to help release it. Then check to make sure the screw in the center of the chuck is tight, should be left hand thread

If the left hand threaded bolt in side the chuck backs out it will jam the teeth. Take an Allen wrench and tighten it up. Remember left hand thread.

mine does that too. It wont unwind. WHat I found is I have to tighten it tight, then it will unscrew. If I try to loosen it without getting it tight first it wont budge.

I had one exactly like that. It was completely stuck. I had no choice to remove it and install the new jacobs jaw chuck.

The only problem I could not close the jaws around a large allen wrench. I ended up cutting off the chuck with a thin disc on the angle grinder.

Thanks folks, I'm going to go out a try all suggestions. I really miss being able to use this tool. I didn't realize that I seem to use it every day and I've been retired for over 20 years. Never seem to get caught up these days.

I'm all for repair as opposed to replace, but based on the number of comments here with the same problem, it appears it is a design issue, and your replacement will be the same.

I've just been working on a Dewalt 3/8" corded drill. The chuck is screwed on, no rivets or internal screws holding it. I just put the chuck in a vise, let the power of the drill take it off. New chucks from parts houses are prohibitive.....but check ebay or amazon. For ten to fifteen bucks you can get shipped in a chuck.

actually mine was fine until I "lost" it for about 2-3 months. found it in the spring where it had fallen behind my zero turn in the fall when I had removed the panels to clean behind them and put it away, cleaned off the rust and replaced the battery, but the chuck sticks sometimes. I would say out of the millions of these things theyve sold the few compaints here would be the norm

TO ALL THOSE WHO MADE SUGGESTIONS ON MY STUCK CHUCK......

I used a large pair of Channel Locks (fortunately with the direction switch in Neutral) I was able to unlock the Chuck easily and now it works great (AGAIN).

Thank Ya, Thank Ya Very Much...........................[/B]
