I was in the process of running some speaker wire through the house and ran into an issue. My 9/16" flexi bit is now stuck in the ceiling joist.
The particular section is a flat roof with the joist running perpendicular to where I was drilling from. So the bit is between two joists and I had to drill through the blocking at half way and the rim board at the end. At some point through the blocking the set screws on the extension came loose.
So now I have a $35 bit stuck in the blocking. I can see the bit fine but the closest end is 54" away from where I can reach by hand.
I have been able to slide the extension back on but since I can't reach the set screws once out there it will not turn the bit. I have also been able to fish some paracord out and around the shank on the bit. It held and I was able to pull on it until I pulled hard enough to break the paracord. So its in there pretty good.
The ceiling below the joists is tongue and groove and there is a plywood and rubber membrane roof above. So just opening up a section isn't really an option right now.
Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to recover the stuck bit? Or am I going to have to just wait until its time to do repairs on the ceiling or roof and grab it then?
