Stuff no one uses anymore?

I been organizing the garage somewhat during all this isolation time and had emptied out my older tool tower for a good cleaning and dust down. This wa sin the lower part of the box from days long by for me...

RAC Tach/Dwell and ohm analog meter.

Are they worth anything to anybody. I see a bunch of old used ones EBAY though none where like this one.

It still has the storage case and box, coil clip, shunt bar and manual


Does anyone maybe like collect them

I got rid of similar items several years ago, before moving. Tach and dwell meter, timing light, clutch alignment tools for old British sports cars, drum brake tools, etc.. Put them on CL for awhile without any success. Ended up donating them. Hopefully, you'll have better luck. Just have to find the right person who still has a use for them.

I have one only because the '69 Ford Backhoe.

Miter box, is pretty useless now days. I always hated using one.

I have a tach/dwell meter kicking around too. I used it about 5 years ago to setup the ignition on a slant-6 Fury. It's not in my way, so I keep it around.

I have a similar one, use it to set dwell on Kawasaki KZ's etc.

timing lights do they get used now ? i haven't used one for years everything i have runs on diesel .

Yes, miter box and back saw. Got rid of those many moons ago. Neighbor at the time was a trim and finish carpenter and part time cabinet maker. He saw me using my miter box once and felt sorry for me. Said "Bring that stuff over to my house!" Lol.

A timing light is still used on Diesel engines. There is a pulse sensor clamped to the number one fuel line. this signals the timing light to flash on a reference point on the engine. I have used this many times on the 6.9 and 7.3 Diesels.

every day is a good day to learn something new . is that a normal connect to the spark plug type light or a special one for that engine ? where does it get power from ?

Timing light is still used on lawnmowers, generators etc.

I bought a timing light when I was teenager in the 90s but I had cars older than me. As I moved on to newer vehicles, I gave away my timing light. I bought a 95 f150 with the inline 6 engine. I had a buy a timing light to adjust the timing on that. I sold that truck 12 years ago, but I still have the timing light. I’m keeping it this time.

Old time oil can spout for one quart cans and an old style oil filter wrench. Haven't used either in many, many years but can't quite make myself get rid of them.

Yes they are worth something. Many older car owners still use them especially on the Delco Remy distributors for setting dwell, idle rpm and checking plug wires and alternators/generators. Yours looks to be in very good condition and should be easy to sell. $25 to $35 is in the ball park for Ebay. Some people collect them.

I keep one of the cheap plastic miter boxes on my work truck. Nice for a random piece of trim. I'm not doing a whole project with one!

I got rid of my dwell meter several years ago and then had to buy one. I won't be getting rid of stuff like that anytime soon. Even if it's rarely used I'd hate to go looking for the stuff I got rid of.

Two of my 3 vehicles have points, so yes I have those instruments and proudly say I can use them for the intended purpose.

we use a timing light once in a blue moon in conjunction with a vibration analyzer to find an issue.

I still have two Thexton kits one filled with feedback carb tools, the other with coil & alternator adapters. Probably haven't used them in over 25 years.

With a '72 F-250, and a '65 tractor, I guess I'll always have the old-school tune-up stuff. I'm not sure why I still have the tool to synchronize dual carbs on a VW, though. I keep it with my huge collection of clutch alignment tools that I can't seem to part with.

I almost never use a claw hammer and nails any more.

If I'm repairing are building something out of wood, I just use screws.
