How about a prototype Cman 3/4 inch aluminum ratchet? Yes, prototype!! Yes, aluminum!!
This is a 3/4 inch drive Cman RP ratchet that was never produced for resale. I don't know why it was never made but my guesses are the Marketing guys figured they couldn't sell enough of them or they were concerned about warranty issues. It is the same size as the regular Cman 3/4 rats and even sports the same part number with leads me to believe they used the same die to mark it if not all the same dies to make it. It weighs 2 lb 9 oz. I do have a lot of fun with it as it resides on the wall across from my desk along with some other unique or old tools and I routinely ask people to pick it up. You should see there faces,,,,,,,,,,especially when they knock the tools above it off the wall. Don't put much into the black finish, my buddy says it was most likely sprayed with Rustoleum in the lab.
Next is a thin beam Cman RP speed wrench. I don't know the era that it was made, but it is old. I say thin beam as one manufacturer of Cman RP's had a distinctively thinner beam then any other. Actually its the only Cman RP that I will keep for myself. I buy and sell a lot of tools and I have never seen another of these speed wrenches. I won't say rare, but they ain't falling out of the woodwork
How about some forging steps to make a Cman RP wrench? Here are 4 steps in the forging process. Note, I don't know if I am missing any steps. I assume I am. Here is how 2 1 1/8 wrenches start. It is an 1 1/8 x 23 inch piece of stock. Weighs 6 lbs. Note, on the last pounding before the wrenches are broken off, it weighs 6 lbs.
Next 2 steps
Still needs to have the box end punched and be marked.
1/2 inch drive Cman RP ratchet
Cman 3/8 rat, cross force wrench, sockets and a prototype ratchet
I say prototype ratchet cause it is machined out of a block of steel, not forged. The ratchet is 60 tooth and SmOOOOOOOOOOOOOOth!! Thinner then a RP also. Not finished as there is no detent ball and it looks like a quick release button would be added.
