Old motor had 4 wires brown- brown/white black yellow also had a seperate cap for motor!

Picked up new motor (multi hp) which has 5 wires brown black purple orange red plus the person at the parts desk just wanted me to use a new multi tap capacitor and do away with the motor cap and just use the new one.

Brown and brown/white use to go to the fan capacitor, but don't have that option anymore. I'm drawing a blank here. May have been in the sun too long!

Any help would be great!

Btw I was stumped on the red black lo/hi! I kept thinking it was for rpm not amps. Is that right?

check amps and RPM off of the old motor name plate and compare it to the new one and match as close as possible.
wire it using the top diagram

The black (or red, you will need to see which lead gives you the correct HP/ampdraw) goes to the load side of the contactor. With a multi tap capacitor, the orange goes to the common side or C the brown to the FAN side of the cap. Cap ALL other wires with wirenuts and tape. Should be good to go.

Use the 4 wire hook up as that would be the closest to what you had. Purple brown go to correct mfd taps on capacitor. Orange goes to line. Pick red or black depending on what the old motor HP rating was, or go off of amp draw if you have a clamp meter. Rotation is changed by switching the yellow and blue leads.

Fan blade vibrations will take out the bushings/bearings in the fan motor if not taken care of in a timely manner.

Yes, this is right choice, I should have gone back and reread your post. I could have sworn you said you had a three wire setup. I need to do better, sorry!!!

X2 on the wiring. I'd replace the blade, too, but unfortunately many of those cheapo multi fit motors don't last very long anyway. I hate them.

This is exactly what I finally figured out. I don't know why it stumped me for a while, maybe it was the blazing heat? Yeah the fan blade is on order (rather old Bryant unit) and will be replaced asap!
